Did I miss something?

I mailed our petition yesterday via Next Day USPS Express Mail to the Texas Service Center. When I checked the tracking to see if it had been delivered I was informed that there was a failed attempt and will try again tomorrow at noon. Is this typical? Did I send it the wrong method?

I also sent my forms express mail with delivery & signature confirmation. Same thing, there were like 2-3 failed attempts, I guess they were to lazy to sign for the package. But after 3 days it was signed and I got my NOA shortly after.

I work for the US Air Force. Whenever I send items requiring Certified Mail, I have to list all the tracking numbers (certified, return receipt) on a "talley sheet". The packages are then signed for by the post office.

IMHO, a similar process is probably used at the service center. A mail clerk would create a "talley sheet" for the office the package is going to. Said office would sign for receipt on the "talley sheet". Then later, the green card (or yellow/orange index card sized paper) is physically signed. That would explain the date discrepancy.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, you three! Checked the tracking on it this morning and it say received at 5:17 AM May 11, 2007.

So, the next step is to just wait for California's NOA1?

Yes, you will need to wait about two weeks maybe three before you receive the NOA1. After you get the notice with your case number, go to the USCIS web site and sign up for email notification. This will allow you to see when your file is moved or action is taken. You are in for a three month wait on average. So, don't get to excited about touches until the three month period is near. Everytime your file is moved it is computer scanned for tracking purposes. This movement is referred to as a touch. When you get close to the approval time period you should see a number of touches at that time.

So, relax and start preparing for the arrival of your intended spouse. If you keep busy the three months can go quickly and then it's on to the state department phase. You should check the guides here about the average processing time for your embassy involved.
