This part may have hurt her chances actually.

Considering she is a doctor in her home country, employed full time. owns 2 homes, cars, etc. and has been working in a professional job for more than 20 years...seems reasonable for a CO to assume she is able to fund her trip herself.  Even myself reading that part made me think aloud "why would you be funding her trip instead of herself?"

While there is nothing wrong with helping out a parent financially...when it comes to tourist visas it can also make a CO presume that you are able/willing to continue to support her financially should she choose to overstay.

That did seem odd, a Doctor.

Exactly what I was going to say. Everything looked good and then this stuck out like a sore thumb as looking odd. And COs don’t seem to like things that look odd.

Yes you're right, I didn't think about it at that moment. Maybe we can change it and apply in August. Would my husband allowed to attend an interview with her you think?

I doubt it certainly not normal.

Not only is it highly unlikely he’d be allowed, it would also seem to smack of desperation that seems way overboard for a tourist visa. (Assuming he’d have to travel to Ukraine to do it?)

Doubtful.

Also, since you mentioned his profession in the original post---him being a police officer won't make a difference regarding her chances of approval, either.

Ok, so what's your advice? What can she do to be able to come and visit?

That’s a really difficult question to answer because on paper she really looks like a good candidate. It was clearly something in how she answered the interview questions that didn’t work for the CO. This may be one of those rare occasions when it is actually worth just trying again...?

My advice first and foremost would be to not reapply right away since she was *just* denied.  Doing so shows a level of desperation to travel to the States and will likely result in another denial.

If she is able to fund her own trip financially, then she should state so on the form.

All else fails, thankfully you have the option of travelling to visit her since there is no advice anyone can give you that would guarantee an approval.

We know it is an extremely difficult pill to swallow. But the decision was made. Your mother can certainly apply again. And she may very well get a visa. But other than that, there is nothing you can do to help.

We see it all the time. There are immigrants who come on a fiance visa and can't even have family get a visitor visa to witness them get married. One of the harsh realities of immigration is not everyone will get a chance.
