Good morning fellow vjers,

I need some help!! Me and wife just filed her citizenship along with my step daughters citizenship as well.  My wife went to the dmv to renew her license and they put the expiring date of the green card which is 11/11/2018. Now that is basically the last day my wife can drive legally. Please help guys what should we do in the situation. Do I have to file for the green card renewal as well?

Hi there,

This is kind of a unique situation.

I just researched our DMV website which states that you do need to provide proof of legal residence, hence green card. However,  I-551 stamp is accepted as well at the time of renewal.

So I would call or research your state DMV website. If it's the same regulation, go ahead and get a I-551 stamp on her passport before her green card expiration date, which will extend her green card for 12 month, while waiting for naturalization. Then renew her driver's license again before the new expiration - 11/11/2018.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

My timeline:

Removal of condition on GC

04/04/08 Sent my I-751 to TSC by express mail

04/11/08 Case was transferred to VSC, showed online

05/03/08 Biometric test scheduled

03/29/09 Received ten year green card

You have to schedule an infopass appointment at your local office. There is no cost.

When waiting for our i-751 to process, we had to get one as well. They just need your foreign passport and proof that you are waiting on am application to finish processing.

Hi everyone,

I filed on 8/30 and did my biometrics on 9/19. It seems I might be the only one on this thread with the longest estimated processing time(25 months). I filed online and I live in the Dallas area, it seems my paperwork was sent to NBC processing center and I’m not sure if this is why there’s a long processing time. I’ve been a green card holder since 2002.

My processing time went up after my biometrics(20 months to 25 months) unlike everyone here says theirs went down. Has anyone experienced similar estimates?

I did receive an email about an action on my case was done and when I logged in, it simply says that no action is needed on my part(assuming this is waiting for the interview letter).

From my understanding those "estimated" processing times are not accurate and applicants end up getting their interviews much sooner.  Still the long and drawn out processing time estimate is also a reflection of the back log at those centers. Although yours seems a bit long... on the uscis website, current processing times for Dallas are between 17 and 19 months. Atlanta is currently at 12 to 22.5 months.

I guess I don’t have the longest waiting time. USCIS should open additional processing centers in those backlogged locations like Atlanta and Dallas.

You and my wife are in the same boat. She filed on 8/25 and her estimated time was 26 months . When she got scheduled for the biometric the estimated time went to 24 months and the day after her biometric the estimated time went up to 25 months. Maybe Dallas is just having issues.
