Single girl applying for B2 visa with her parents... what are my chances?

Hi... I'm a single Indian woman (actually I do have a boyfriend and have been in a long term relationship for some years but yeah) and I'm applying for a B2 visa along with my parents to go visit my younger brother who's currently working in the USA. We also want to visit  a few tourist attractions while we're there. My question is, what are my chances?? I have been refused a tourist visa twice to visit my brother last year but back then I applied alone and this time I'm planning to travel with my parents so would this help or make any difference? I'm also working in a financial company for the past 7 months... Last time, I applied I was working for a different company. So what are my chances of getting approved as well as my parents?? Thanks.

Btw, I'm 29years old and from India.

Being refused twice within one year is likely to result in a third denial since you are applying again in such a short span of time (and can make it seem to a CO that you are desperate to enter the country).  Applying/travelling with your parents does not make a difference in terms of getting an approval.

I was refused once last year and the second time in January this year. Now after 6 months I'm applying so I can travel there together with my family.

Thanks for the clarification.  When you'd originally said " I have been refused a tourist visa twice to visit my brother last year"  it sounded as though you had applied twice in the same year.

An approval depends on whether your personal circumstances have changed since your last denial.  Having a steady job helps as does home ownership (which is more difficult in your case considering it's common in India for females to live with their parents and be supported by them until they are married)--- travelling with both of your parents can hurt as it lessens your ties to your home country.   Having a US-based brother can also lessen your chances as it shows a strong tie to the States.

Think back to why your previous visas were denied----what were the reasons given?  What questions/info did the CO seem to focus on?  Might give you an idea on what issues were raised before and what you need to actually change before your third attempt.

Your boyfriend is not in the US is he?

Anyway your chances seem quite low. Have you travelled to other countries?

My boyfriend is an Indian citizen living in India.

And no, I haven't had the opportunity to travel to any countries before. Neither have my parents.

My brother just started working in the US this year after completing his studies and he's still on an OPT visa, not an H1B. So I'd say that's not that much of a strong tie to the US compared to if my brother was a green card holder or a permanent resident.

Last time when the VO denied me she said that I needed more ''work experience''. I've moved onto a much better company than my last one now even though, for now I get the same salary as my last job and I've worked there around 6 months.

Unfortunately the US won't be the first country you visit.

At my B2 one of the questions asked was what countries have I previously travelled to and my answer Im sure made it easy to get approved.

Never travelled anywhere = too high overstay risk given the circumstances.

You have to understand I live in India. As a young unmarried female, I don't have to freedom to just go backpacking alone around the world! We want to travel to the US mainly to visit my brother and for some sightseeing.

I get what you're saying here, but you need to look at it from a CO's perspective.

Single woman who has never traveled anywhere and has no immediate family like spouse or children/no long-term employment/no property ownership back in India as a tie wants to travel with her parents to see the sibling residing in the US.  What would prevent the CO from assuming you have no compelling reasons to go back afterwards?

On a side note---if you've been with your employer less than 6 months, are they likely to give you any approved vacation time?  CO will also wonder this, and if you will not just resign from your position, (resulting in possible overstay) depending on how long you are planning to stay in the US when asked this at the interview.

You can certainly try for a tourist visa----no one is telling you not to.  We are just trying to give you more perspective as to what you may be facing.

Yeah, I understand but I really don't have any intention to live there as an illegal immigrant. Sounds like a really rough and scary life.

And I have discussed regarding vacation leave with my employers and they are willing to grant it.

On a side note, my childhood male friend's visa recently got approved along with his family. He too is unmarried, has not traveled to any other countries before and is traveling to the US to meet his brother. Then again, he has a decent paying job in the medical field so maybe that helped?
