Is anybody here still waiting for the NVC Welome letter? We don't want to screw uo the process. My fiancee is still waiting for that letter so we can start filing DS 260 and procuring the correct documents.

Do you mean to know if your case is at NVC? Because I'm in the same boat. I received the hardcopy of my NOA2 on July 26th but on the letter says July 20th so I figured I'd call just in case, and I did today but phone is really busy apparently because I can't get a hold on anyone. I'll try tomorrow. I already filled out the DS 260 form though, I saved it but there's still a few things pending on there so not 100% complete.

Not sure if things have changed but-
When I had my case approved in February, I scheduled my interview and submitted DS-160 before NVC letter came.
As a matter of fact, letter came just the day before my interview!
I also know people that never got the letter to begin with and went to their interviews just fine.

As long as case tracker says your case is "Ready"- that means embassy has it.
U may go ahead and begin the process for your interview. If you are overly worried about it, perhaps schedule interview a few weeks in advance?

As a general timeline, my NVC letter came about 6-7 weeks after my approval so...

Ds260 or ds160?

Ds-160 is for fiance visa application
Do not do the DS-260- that's for spousal applications

Good point @conarroest

Just for anyone to clarify-it's a DS-160 for a K1 and DS-260 for CR1. This thread is mainly for K1 applicants.

DS 260 even if the K1 is not a inmigrant visa.

No that's incorrect! a DS-160 is for K1! a DS-260 doesn't apply unless your applying the spousal route - as in a CR1.

A DS-160 is for a non-immigrant visa (which is what a K1 visa technically is) and the DS-260 is for an immigrant visa (which is what a CR1 technically is). I know on CEAC it shows (for checking status) that when us K1 er's type in our case number it shows an immigrant status but it technically is a non-immigrant visa.

sorry guys. It's 160. I still get confused. For some purposes, like status check, it is treated like the CR1/IR 1.

Besides that I called both ustraveldocs and NVC and I'm more confused than ever. Us travel docs tells me thst the case is at the embassy annd is ready for processing. NVC tells me that is its on its way to the embassy.

No-it's an easy mistake to make. On CEAC it shows your case as an immigrant visa/status but it technically is a non-immigrant visa. It can be confusing but it's really important for users to know it's a DS-160 required for a K1 and NOT a DS-260! Just a good point to get across to avoid any unnecessary complications/delays. Good luck through :)

No-we just completed it ourselves whilst the case was still at NVC. We were able to complete it, submit it and even book an interview for mid-September. You are perfectly fine to go ahead and complete it. In hindsight, I wish we had of done it slightly earlier in the process. But Jake and I are robotic when we need to be so got it taken care of very quickly! No-I'd suggest cracking on ahead with it. Get an extra box ticked off I guess! :)

And that's precisely my problem I don't want ti takes these step because Ifear Im going to screw up.

Bit of the back story.  I am doing the process through an immigration lawyer. At the start of the process I was very happy with the service. However I have been a bit disappointed lately with laywer's service because of previous setbacks on the case while at USCIS. Long story short I got an RFE on one point of evidence I think the lawyer missed or forgot to include. The other was the infamous "I didn't send the requested information (USCIS screwup, lost papers, etc).

Now I don't really want to start of with my fiancee filling the DS-160 because we supposedo fill it out with the assistance of the lawyer. Lawyer tells me to be patient while the notification arrives from the embassy. And that's were I get confused (and impatient) on the process.

We have a lawyer too. Has it been worth the money? No!

However, the good thing is that with the DS-160 you don’t have to do it all at once and you can do it at your leisure (obviously needs to be done before scheduling/before your actual interview depending on your embassy). It’s not difficult and honestly there is so many guides online to help with the filling in of it. Don’t become overwhelmed. By the sounds of it, I’d do it together if needs (petitioner and beneficiary) for moral support but obviously the beneficiary (not sure if that’s you or not) will know all the details. I printed it off multiple times to proof read for errors. Don’t rush is all I can say-take your time and don’t stress! There’s so many resources online and support here on VJ too

Always remember you can redo a DS-160 again before your interview (I believe from researching). So please put your mind at complete ease!

There’s probably many people I’m sure who have made mistakes but it’s all about recognising those mistakes and correcting it all completely before your interview. Take care and hollar for any support you need on here 🙌
