Its pretty well documented in the article that the study does not link trump supporters to opioid abuse.

But in the grander scheme of things it doesn't matter. Trump country is being hit the hardest with the epidemic. 

 

The socioeconomics costs of this could explain why these parts of the country decided to flock to a populist candidate.
