People with needs, whether addiction or hunger or a hand up because their jobs have been taken, deserve our support and not our labels.

I live in a rich country and have the means, I should be contributing to solving the problem.

Any reason you are not?

As i said, the articles posted were very selective in their implications, both the food stamps and opiod use, neither would pass muster for scientic method both in term of population and controls. You yourself stated as much but left flawed conclusions to facilitate the headline-only readers.

My point was that snippets of random pseudo-research should not be the basis of inflammatory postings.

i can find research however flawed proving I am a unicorn

Alright, do you have any large scale experiements that contradict these findings?

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement.

I am, through my taxes, through my support of government programs, through my opposition to narrow minded policies of the current Executive branch and my charitable donations. I could do more, I know we all do what we can.

If you pay taxes you are contributing, whose decision is it how generous I should be?

because of medical costs I find myself at the brink of retirement with 65k in medical bills above and beyond what is paid by my $950 per month medical premiums,  my x-sister in law has an Obama care subsidized plan that is fully subsidized and generates little if any deductibles and copays.

I will extend my retirement by 2 years in the face of failing health in order to contribute to the common wealth, no one offered me a handout not did I expect one.

You can choose to contribute as you wish, don't spend my money

Then do more.

Why do I have to discredit or defend someone else's flawed research?

The opioid crisis is everywhere in the US. Rich, poor, black, white, urban, suburban, employed, unemployed, it doesn’t seem to matter.

True..  but studying statical data behind the epidemic will help us learn cause and effect.
