@emekus94  Is it possible to get a one time pass for Canadian customs in the event of the death of a grandfather before you get AP?

If you are a Canadian, your US AP application has no effect on entering Canada.

You will not be able to come back to the US without your AP. However,  you should apply for Emergency Advance Parole Application. Here are steps:

1. Prepare your application for Advance Parole

2. Make an appointment at your local USCIS office - Infopass

3. Attend appointment to request emergency advance parole

When visiting a local office to request emergency Advance Parole, you should take the following items:

A completed and signed Form I-131, Application for Travel Document

The correct I-131 filing fee

Evidence to support the emergency request (e.g. medical documentation, death certificate)

Two passport-style photos.

Travel Before Advance Parole Is Issued

You must obtain your Advance Parole Document before leaving the United States. Travel outside of the United States may have severe consequences if you are in the process of adjusting status to permanent resident (applying for a green card). In general, if you are seeking immigrant status (green card) and depart the United States without Advance Parole, you may be inadmissible to the United States upon return, or even if admitted, you may be found to have abandoned your I-485 application.

If i have already submitted my AP, do i just show the USCIS NOA letter at the appointment?

I have the same question! I’m currently waiting for my advance parole. I’m on day 112 but I’m planning on filing for emergency parole because my grandma has been given a few days by her doctor. Do I just take the NOA for my already filed i-131?

hi hi

Am not sure about Canadian laws but one thing I am certain is--

The issue isn't leaving U.S., the issue is COMING back.

Under no circumstances should you leave U.S. without a GC or at least an AP.

You can request for an emergency AP (which under the circumstances, you should qualify for since I've seen people receive it usually for deaths in the family and things of that nature-- i.e. EMERGENCIES that are unplanned for)

Sorry to hear about the loss of your grandpa

Hey guys,

Received my combo card (EAD/AP) in the mail today and also my SSN as well.

I already had a SSN which i received about 6days after i arrived the U.S but it came in my maiden name and valid for work  only with DHS authorization printed on it. So when i applied for EAD i ticked yes to receiving a card from USCIS, hence the simultaneous delivery. Also note for those that worry it would mean having two different SSN, that's wrong, it's the same number as the old card just updated with my legal name and valid for work with DHS authorization printed on it. For those that find themselves in this same situation, hope this calms your nerves. Goodluck to the rest of u waiting

Hello all... My husband received his combo card today.  It is valid for one year but since I am the biggest planner and worrier, I wanna know how many months in advance should we be applying for a renewal card.  And I understand that he can get an interview and GC before expiration but the chances are low since I live in South Florida and well the wait is a bit longer for us.  thanks!

Hey girl!
So if am not wrong-- there seems to be an automatic renewal 6 month in advance if you apply for it (i.e. you QUALIFY to apply once you're 6 months out)

Because timelines are getting longer.

I'll probably say not to worry about it JUST quite yet and keep an eye on VJ (come like April next year) to see how far in advance people next year gotta do it

Timelines are all over the place and immigration laws keep changing so much.

Sorry for the late response.

I would call and ask USCIS directly as to what evidence you should bring.

Can you let me know what happens when you apply for emergency parole? I am curious on how it goes.
