Hello everyone. We sent in our package July 27, and as per USPS tracking it was received by the USCIS on July 30. It's now August 7, no e-mail or text confirmation yet. Sigh. How long did it take for you guys to hear from the USCIS?

Got a question for you all, we went and tried to get a ssn today, but the lady said my wife is not yet "married" in Department of State. How soon will that happen so she can get a ssn? We did a biometric today, btw.

It took some people here almost 3 weeks to even get a notification!
As long as you have tracking info showing it got delivered- relax, it's all good.
Give them 30 days before panicking

I think you might be asking too many things at once
Let me take a stab at this and try to clarify some things-

1) It seems you did POE in June 23. That means your I-94 is still valid. SS office will not give an SSN number if your I-94 has less than 30 days left on it
2) IF you already filed for AOS/EAD, did you ask USCIS to give you an SS? Because you did not have one when you filed.
2a) IF you told USCIS to give you an SSN, then going back to the SS office is a bad idea. That's going to cause some issues for you down the line if you end up with 2 SSN in the system. So IF you asked USCIS to give you SSN, you have to wait until you get EAD before getting SSN

3) It is suggested that anyone marrying get an SSN BEFORE getting married. It is difficult to get an SSN in your married name if you didn't get one before because you have no documents showing your married name (i.e. no passport, birth certificate, etc)
Hence it is always easier to go into SS with your Passport with maiden name when you originally did POE, marry, then return with marriage certificate to  change the maiden name

I think #3 above most likely applies to you? Let me know if that helps.

I’m going to have my biometrics appointment on Monday, August 13. But, since I arrived here in CA I started to have a dyshidrotic eczema on my palms due to lack of humidity because I grew in Philippines where there’s a lot of humidity.

my palms are healing now but the skin is still flaking off.

question is, is it going to be a problem on my biometrics appointments?

To to those people ho have done biometrics appointments, does USCIS scanning the whole palms or just the 10 fingers?

thanks a lot!

So I went to my local field office in Chicago today to inquire what the RFE was for. They have requested 2 things:

- A copy of my birth certificate (which was already sent)

- An affidavit from my husband (the petitioner) - I sent an affidavit which was completed by my mother in law originally as my husband is self employed and his taxes etc are complicated. I wasn’t aware that I still had to send in an affidavit from my husband if I was using a co-sponsor?

Either way, I have all of his docs from when IPSec done it for my interview in the U.K.

I think #3 above most likely applies to you? Let me know if that helps.

Thank you! I did a little reading here on VJ and that looks like the best route!

Can my wife get a ssn in her maiden name even after marriage? And then change it to her married name after she gets her green card?
