thank you!  I appreciate your support! I found my ways to send money, I just was not able to do it as fast as I needed.

Of course, I am not going to give up! I live in a beautiful place, I have great husband and friends here) and I have been on 'vacation' for 9 months(since I can not work yet). So I just try to enjoy life and free time! And after all, I found a place to volunteer without American ID.

Do you have any tips on how to learn russian and ukranian? Need to, for my mother in law.... :D. We plan on going back to do a small ceremony their when my wife gets EAD. Love Kiev!!! been there 3 times so far

Again if you live in California a K1, a tourist visa, everyone is expected to get a DL in10days in the state after residence. If you get caught with international license they could charge major ticket. Yes you will easily qualify for AB-60.

Lastly, how exactly you think ppl qualify to be illegal? Run into the dmv say I am illegal....no it just means if you got no i-94/ead you cant get a real “ID”.

ICE does use AB60 to catch illegals which is pretty shitty, but diff topic for diff threads. None of I assume are illegal.

Oh, I do! I am a teacher of Russian by profession. Although I have not much experience in teaching (I worked in a different sphere for many years), I still can share some links to useful apps or podcasts. Do you want them?

A learner's permit is an ID, just like a driver's license or state non-driver ID is (and they all look pretty similar in most states). You can't use it to drive without another adult who meets the requirements in the car, but you can use it to prove your identity (say, to prove you're over 21 to buy alcohol).

My impression previously was that AB-60 licenses (and so state ID cards and learner's permits) were intended for illegal aliens, but the documents available to prove you're eligible for one include things that a K-1 recipient should have. Which is somewhat interesting, because I was thinking my fiancée couldn't even start learning to drive until she got EAD (though she's passed a few online written tests already, she doesn't drive in Russia).

Nope again she can start learning. Goto DMV site for AB-60 put in your company, heck it even says print this out on our own site and show DMV officer, that said all DMV officers basically know by now.

Are you sure an AB-60 is a good idea for someone who will easily qualify for a real ID in a couple of months? I remember I looked into it myself but ultimately decided against it because it's for undocumented immigrants. Also, if OP takes the written test under AB 60 is it possible to turn it into a real ID later?

I had to wait for my EAD before I could take the written test and once I passed it (it's very easy), I got a permit and I could drive with an experienced driver next to me. OP, unless you're going for AB 60, which I don't know if it's a good idea, then you'll need to wait for an EAD

Yah its exact same and you can switch later on. If you search online lots of people between visa extensions do it. Its a good idea depending on how much you need it. Without a license in Southern California life is a daily prison. At most I book the DMV appointment now and see how soon license comes...dmv could take 3 weeks to get appointment.

Good, I remember I made a thread about it but I didn't get any helpful answers, so I just waited and yes, life was like a daily prison.

*Undocumented residents are able to get a DL in CA, but I am not sure what the requirements are.

In California you goto the dmv and ask for an AB-60 license. You will need an SSN card, a valid foreign passport, your lease/gas bill. California is mental about residence of the state. You will take the written test and then road test like everyone.

Your ID will say “Federal Limits Only”. This means you guessed it you can drive in California but the ID is worthless otherwise. Once you get EAD go back to DMV get “Real ID”. If not sure what “Real IDL”, feel free to google.

I would strongly suggest you do NOT get an AB60 license. Undocumented immigrants get AB60 licenses. Producing one somewhere even if you are legal and perfectly fine may lead to uncomfortable situations because the assumption will be that you are undocumented.

Meant how soon EAD comes. Typing on phone. Yah the idea of public transportation is a crime here.

I am completely fine with public transportation. I don’t know how to drive (have never done it before) and hate idea that I need to drive. But I understand it is necessity in the US and I promised my husband to help him sometimes when we go on long trips. I just wanted to pass this written test and then take my time to get emotionally ready for driving. But once I get EAD, DL will be the least priority for me, job - first. I am not going to be stressed out about behind the wheel test because I will have enough stress about interviews. So, I wanted to complete what I can complete when I have free time.

They refused to give me a drivers license before I received my EAD. Which is funny, because if I was illegal I would get a drivers license, no questions asked.

CA requires an AP/EAD card*. Once you have that, you can get a DL. When my wife applied for her drivers permit in CA (which you have to do before the driving test if you've never had a license), someone else was turned away with just their NOA1, and told to come back once they had the AP/EAD or green card.
