My wife and I just moved into our newly constructed home. As a result, we needed to change our address on our Texas drivers licenses.  I was able to complete my address change online without any issues.  However, the system would not allow my wife (Green Card holder) to do so.  We went to the DPS office here in Rockwall county.  The lady was very nice, and she completed the task very efficiently.  My wife had to (1.) fill out the "change" form and (2.) provide thumb prints. She still has her 2024 expiration date  as before....

Note to Texas Green Card Holders

1.  You cannot complete a change of address on line.

2.  ALWAYS use the "in line-on line" process to set up an appointment at Texas DPS.  It will save you hours of waiting in a crowded DPS office.

Also draft wills, powers of attorney, etc., and it should be a slam-dunk.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

When I was eligible for naturalization,  my wife was rushing to get it all filled out. I asked her why the rush for immediate citizenship. She said, "So you can do DPS things online without going in to show your greencard in person every time." 😂

We did the 2-3 hour wait to change address because it was before the mega centers were opened and the "get in line online".

We just did that last Monday - LOL  We went to one of their new "super service centers" or whatever they call them.  No appt, for both of us it took about an hour(ish)

We discovered that online rule back in 2014.  Texas wants to see LPR, etc in person, no updating online.

The in "line-online" eases the pain of waiting so long in the crowded room, especially when the DPS center is small like the one here in Rockwall...I'm just happy that my wife was able to keep such a long expiration date on her license......and Texas has a reciprocity agreement with Taiwan, so last year my wife just surrendered her Taiwanese license with no tests required at all....although getting a translation of her license was a bit of a challenge....lol.

We were gone for awhile.  I didn't know about that pre-scheduling in-line thing.  We just put the kids on gadgets, gritted our teeth, and watched the countdown.  All in all it was pretty painless.

We both had valid licenses, they were on our temp San Antonio address and we finally put stakes down in the Houston area.  It's great to be back LOL.  The service center over in Clear Lake is huge.  They moved a lot of people through very quickly.  I like the new setup,

We go back to 2009 with DPS. My wife even called headquarters in Austin. She wanted to know why if you have shown the credentials in person...social security card, greencard...they don't have it recorded. They said they do not "capture" the immigration status like they do the other information.

Our entertainment while we waited 2+ hours to change address:

The center had large plate glass walls with the parallel parking test cones just outside. It was hilarious how most had no clue how to parallel park. Many tried it driving forward into the space. It was like an extended blooper reel. I guess there's not a big need for parallel parking in Texas with all the giant and free surface parking lots everywhere except downtown of major cities.
