AP, one trip vs multiple trips

My wife is currently in the AoS process and we submitted our package in mid-March 2018. We used a lawyer and were instructed to use the "one trip" versus "multiple trips" option on the I-131 form. I have read that in most cases a multiple-trip AP is approved, but am not sure if this is the case. To be honest, I have not been tremendously impressed with our lawyer, but it seems like the proverbial ball is rolling now and we are just playing the waiting game.

 

Question: if we asked for "one-trip" on the I-131 form, is there a chance that my wife will receive a "multiple-trip" AP?

I have no idea why he said to mark it for one trip vs multiple. There's no (good) reason to do that as multiple-use AP is typically issued when requested due to a pending AOS application.

 

If you filed the same time as the I-765 (EAD / work permit), then they typically issue a combo card anyway, and it will be fine for multiple trips.

I'm not sure if they would issue AP alone as single trip or multiple trip, although I would tend to think they would do multiple in this case.

Yes, we filed the I-765 and I-131 forms together. Hopefully, the multiple trip combo card will be issued. It looks like the USCIS processing times are painfully slow. We received notice that our case was ready to be scheduled for an interview in late May, but the Houston office has long waits from what I have seen.

Yeah, Houston is severely backlogged even more than most field offices.

My office, Philadelphia, is the same. Buckle in for the long wait!

Note that the the I-131 (AP) + I-765 (EAD) are adjudicated by the NBC not the local field offices, so you won't be delayed on those items more than other filers.
