"Nevertheless," he says, "the chaos, the meanness, the brutality of American politics right now is something that is profoundly shocking to Canadians and I think many people feel that they do not recognize the U.S. anymore."

People in the US do not recognize the US any more. :(

I was honestly thinking about this last night at my daughter's swimming lessons about how polarized everything has gotten in both parties. The Left have moved even further to the Left like Bernie while the Right has moved to the Alt-Right in some aspects. This leaves out a lot of Centrists and people in the middle like me. So I was debating the strategy of where do I start policy wise in trying to run for Congress?

You are asking a great question.

I'm wondering if a centrist would even get enough media coverage to be viable.

Let's be real... The far left and far right both know how to sell a time slot.

Exactly....

I was asking my best friend who is a great strategist about starting to get my name out there so that I can either run for the 2020 Congressional elections or when and if they decide to redraw the districts of NC's congressional districts. He flat out told me to not start at a LGBTQ festival that has 20k of people there because "Republicans will not like that and if you do that you need to run as a Democrat".

So my question is if it's not ok to spread a message of love and encourage participation in the GOP then where is it ok? This country and this state(NC) is changing wither we like it or not. We are becoming more multi-racial and open to new ideas so the GOP needs to start embracing more people or be left out in the cold. Because there are Conservative Leaning people within the LGBT community that just need someone who they can turn to in order for them to be heard.

Edit.... Yes, some of my views are more Conservative but overall I think I am a average everyday person tired of the BS.

I think your friend is spot on. The republicans could potentially have a large lgbtq base that supports their conservative economic values.

A message of love, tolerance, and acceptence would go pretty far.

How dare we don't just take the 200%+ tariffs Canada has on some of our products sitting down. Evil Americans wanting equal trade deals.

We already have equal trade with Canada.

The only country you should be shunning is China.

I think 90% of America is moderate(average) , but the need to constantly label ourselves overshadows this fact.

Great quote, Keith, but I think forum rules require a link to the original story to stay out of hot water with plagiarism.
