My husband and I have been married 4 years and we put in the I-130 petition in January (so six months ago today). My question is about the I-601A waiver, and once we get to that part of the process and when it gets approved. We are concerned about the exact time he will have to actually be in El Salvador. We do have an attorney and he has told us no more than 3 weeks. However I would like to know if any has gone through this after getting the pardon waived and have done medical exams that are required, how long was the actual time frame? We have three children and I am currently in school working towards my Bachelors and this is the thing that is setting heavy on our mind. (Mostly his, because he does not want to have to be gone for a long period of time.) Does anyone have any feed back or would care to share their own experiences please?!? I KNOW every case is different but it makes it some what better hearing other's stories of their own process. Thank you.

Hopefully the Lawyer said in most cases no more than 3 weeks.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

The entire process is worrisome.  Be happy that you aren't having to spend a year apart as many of us did after filing I-130s. Good Luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

My husband was only gone for 2 weeks total (Mexico) and that included a couple days of visiting with his family. He said once you get there and the process starts, it's really quick and they have a clear system to get you through everything that needs to be done. Best of luck to you! I know how hard this wait is. The entire process for us took almost 3 years. We had our first I-601A waiver denied, the second submission had a RFE, and then finally approval. You are in the home stretch now!

After we received our waiver, we were told by our attorney my husband would only be 3 weeks in El Salvador. He has been there since 4/13/2018, had one appointment cancelled due to the embassy not having his medical evaluation results 3 weeks after the fact, had to wait 6 more weeks for an appointment, now he is in administrative processing . Still in El Salvador 3 months later with no end in sight. Be prepared for anything.
