I think a big chunk of that is immigrants. It's not always easy for them to get a job, especially since you actually have to have an approved asylum or resident status before they can start to learn Swedish unless they learn on their own.

There's always going to be lazy people. There's need to be strict rules about who is allowed to be on government assistance but they also have to be careful wit their assessment. In Sweden some of the assessments have led to people who absolutely can't work has somehow lost their assistance because some idiot thought that they somehow could work and then they screw up and give assistance to someone who clearly can work. No system is perfect but we can always try to make it better.

That makes sense.  Not every country makes it as easy as the unethical employers in the US for ineligible people to work.

And in all of this discussion, please do not think for one moment I harbor any ill will towards your country, for I do not.  It’s a beautiful place (headed there one year, but never made it North of Denmark), and the government there and taxation seems to be working.  Just not so sure it would here.

Yes

What you want currently exists in Michigan.

And it's not very good.

Thanks to Betsy Devos.

I'm not, so don't worry :) I'm just trying to dispel myths. Sweden, or any other Nordic country, is far from perfect. All countries has something to work on. But that part is something I wish we could implement in some way here. I know it wouldn't work 100% here for different reasons but it would be beneficial for everyone if some of it could be implemented. Especially for the elderly who are very vulnerable here.
