My concern is not with the qualifying for the support test but the fact that your father does not need to worry about another mouth to feed. Being disabled he will not be able to supplement his retirement income with a part time job. Real estate is not a liquid asset.  Health care costs even with Medicare are non-trivial. Prescriptions are a burden for even those with twice his income.

What is the rush? Wait until you can support yourself and your intended without burdening your father.  He could end up doing without medications and care essential to his life because of the additional responsibilities once you are married.

The one strange thing I've found about this site is people are always worried about other people's pockets for some reason. I will be graduating from college soon and have a bigger support network than just my dad, plus I do plan on working. She plans on working as well when the right amount of time has passed. Just secured my employment yesterday, plus I'm going to college full time and I'm taking out loans to help get through that. We'll be fine, I'm sure I can land a job out of school, just need a little help getting through.

The rush is love....no one likes to be separated from someone they love.

OP:

1) If you are doing a K1 sending the financial support forms ARE NOT to be done. The I-134 for a K1 is given to the fiancé during the time of their interview. Any 'memorandum' for an I-864 does not apply here.

2) It is only after you marry and adjust status that the I-864 is send with the adjustment application. They won't care one bit about you sending their own memorandum to them. The instructions for the I-864 are clear, and if the father barely scrapes by the minimum requirements, I'd be concerned the officer would be skeptical. I would either find another sponsor or wait until you have secured a job comfortably.

3) We all missed and spent years away from our loved ones. When it comes to immigration, you're going to find out nothing is exactly easy with this process, and if you want to increase your chances of success you need to follow instructions carefully.

4) Please read the VJ guides for applying for a K1, there's a lot of good info there describing everything that would be needed to send. Some confusion has already been put into this thread.

5) Be advised that your fiancé will be unable to work for a very significant amount of time. That includes after you marry.

5) Be advised that your fiancé will be unable to work for a very significant amount of time.2. That includes after you marry.

So let's see....if father meets the income requirements for three people, but household size will be two, they will be skeptical?

2.) I mixed the forms up, not a biggie. Is being over the income level for 3 people "barely scraping by" for household size two?

3.) I follow instructions carefully, hence why I am here asking for clarification. My initial packet was probably more detailed and "to instructions" than it had to be.

5.) I know, and it's fine. Have you ever heard of work authorization? Still, I don't think we will even pursue the I-765 route.

I don't understand why certain people on this site are so condescending, negative, and discouraging. If she's already in the US when they go over I-864, and the income requirements were met once for K1 and again for AOS, I don't see where the issue will be. I have a very wealthy uncle who absolutely loves and adores Russians and Russia, so I can ask him if need be, but it's just easier to keep it in the family. The girl would go home and leave me before she ever had to apply for benefits anyway, and it's not going to be an issue.

I appreciate all the pocket watching and money counting from everyone though. I'm sure you all do it out of genuine concern for you fellow man.

*Maybe I should note that I'm just 24 years old....so yeah I'm a little behind schedule as far as the career goes, but I have an associates, and a 3.0 current GPA which I expect to rise by the time I complete my bachelors. I'm busting my ###, sleeping 6 hours a day to study and do what I need to do to get the life me and my fiance want. Up until recently I was consistently working 30-45 hours a week. I'm not some bum who wants to live off the state and my parents with my "boo bae".
