Hi All,

Just got back from my medical this morning so thought I'd post with some feedback. I figure I'd preface this by saying there is absolutely no reason to worry! I was feeling anxious leading up to this date (more so than the interview, in fact), but the staff and doctors are all really lovely and this put me at ease.

I arrived approx. 15 minutes early at Bentinck Mansions so was told to sit in the waiting room until my appointment time. Once the time came around I was called up and handed over all paperwork (Patient Summary, Police Certificate, Passport, Photos, Questionnaire, etc.).

I was then given another questionnaire to complete which is similar to the one you need to bring along with you (just a bit more detailed with regards to medical conditions). I then handed this questionnaire in and was promptly called for my chest x-ray, which was done by a lady. It took no more than 5 minutes and I was back out in the waiting room. 10 minutes went by and I was called in by the nurse who confirmed my vaccinations were fine and no more were needed (managed to get my MMR and TDaP done for free at my GP surgery). Before the nurse sent me back to the waiting room she explained there was a delay in seeing patients so the doctor may be a while. She wasn't lying, as I had to wait 45 minutes before being called up again! :o

Finally, the doctor came to get me - a really lovely chap that was in the happiest mood (perhaps it was the nice weather we are having today!?). He talked me through the process of what he would be doing - he jokingly said that it would mostly be me watching him fill out paperwork! After filling out some forms he talked through my medical summary (I explained a brief bout of low mood / anxiety) and he was content with the GP letter I supplied. We then spent a bit more time discussing a police caution I received from 12 years ago as alcohol was a factor - although he was satisfied with the details I provided and did not recommend a test for alcohol levels. Finally we did the physical stuff - height, weight, eye test, etc. I wear contact lenses and was actually wearing them when he tested me - I did ask if I should take them out but he said it was fine to keep them in. Lastly, he checked my ears, eyes and mouth and we ended with him taking a blood sample.

Back to the waiting room and I was called up 5 minutes later to pay the fee. I  was given my passport along with a document regarding my vaccinations that will be needed for AOS. The receptionist advised the results can take up to 4 days and then a further 5 days to be couriered to the embassy. Fingers crossed it gets there before my interview date which is just under 2 weeks away.

All in all, a positive experience and nothing to worry about... I hope the interview goes as smoothly! :D

Hi thanks for this!

Regarding the low mood/anxiety, did your GP go into deal about this? I’m a extremely worried that my doctors letter doesn’t contain enough detail (see attached).

You're welcome!

My letter was also very brief and basically stated I'd had a bout of low mood / anxiety and was referred for counselling which resolved this, and that I was not considered a threat to myself or others. My GP also mentioned that the treatment involved no medication (just the counselling sessions).

Hope that helps :D
