Awesome. Let us know how it goes (actually getting the visa, entry,etc.). While the DOS policies (FAM) allow for this circumstance, it's a mixed bag of success and not many cases to go by.

That is good for you guys, and good thing you didn't just give up on this! It does make sense though...since it was within the 90 days and not married.

so she is back here in the USA. just a reminder to bring the k1 visa packet back with you on re-entry...

 

i have a sight issue, is there a timeline for applying for SSN? the SS office worker mentioned that it might not go through since her I-94 expires 8/31. We have to return tomorrow with more documents, but the worker mentioned this. I thought the SSN only took about a week to receive?

Congrats!

 

You must have at least 14 days of legal status remaining. So that means you must apply before the 17th (assuming I calculated it correctly).

It's always possible that her application has to go through manual verification, in which case it will go beyond that 14 days and be denied.

She can apply for an SSN once she gets an EAD or green card, too.

oh just read that a  ssn is required by US citizens only for marriage license. 

 

I thought that to get married we both needed SSN's. So my plan was to get her SSN , then go instantly to get marriage license.

 

So at this point, we just need to get marriage license. Then can apply for SSN during green card? we have limited time of course so making sure we take the best steps. we will go in the morning to see about the SS card. But worst case we can just marry without?

No US state requires you to have an SSN before you can obtain a marriage licence, but if you do have one then you are required by federal law to disclose it.
