My husband came through Atlanta with K-1 last May with round trip ticket. Not a problem.  Remember to cancel the return leg after a few weeks.  Take your marriage license after it is returned to you after marriage (usually within a week from county) to social security office and change your name. Then go change your DL and name on bank account. You can have all AOS paperwork ready to go once you receive your new ss card and driver’s license in your new name. Definitely file paperwork with your new name. It makes things much easier.  Congratulations!

Ugh stupid airline policies not catching up with immigration laws. He should be ok, he’s not required to show information about the purchase of his plane tickets at POE. A lot of people on VJ have reported flying with an immigrant visa on a round trip ticket just because sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a return than a one way. You guys will be fine.

I have to wait until my name is changed through ss even though he's the one applying for AOS?

It shouldn't be any issue with CBP. They don't care if you intend to leave or not with a K-1...the K-1 permits entering, marrying, and staying, or just leaving.

Once in the US, be sure to cancel the return flight. It's not common but has happened that the airline flags them as leaving the country, which can present undue delays and an annoying explanation when it comes to AOS.

You have to put down what your legal name is when you file the paperwork even if he is the one applying for AOS. If you wait until you change your name then you can put your new married name. It really doesn’t take that long.

The airline will allow you to book a 1 way ticket with documentation.   Also, it is for this reason that I love chase and the Credit card products they offer.  I have the saphire reserve and united card and have put my spending on those cards and obtained points for free flights and they let you book a one way ticket no problem for half the points that a roundtrip ticket would cost.

He should be fine. You're right. He should not volunteer information. Only say when asked. Congratulations and good luck!

We don't even care now. It's done and over with. I was just asking if anyone else has recently had this experience.

I flew with Turkish Airlines, one way ticket. No questions asked. The security is not that well prepared in Istambul about K1 visa, they ask the regular questions e.g how long you stay, your purpose of the visit, etc, but beside that there were no questions and they don't even mentioned  a return flight....

Assuming you paid for the ticket with a credit card, if the airline refuses to issue a refund when you cancel the return flight, you could dispute the purchase with your credit card company.  I don't know whether your credit card company would  issue you a refund, but you have nothing to lose by trying.

I came in on BA one way and have flown BA and US since then with no return ticket to the UK and not being a US Citizen.

Ok since I am the petitioner and the bride obviously my name would legally still be my last name now. Should we wait until my name has changed to his to send in AOS or just do it within days even though my legal name will be what it is now and just include a message that my name will be changed to his soon?

Your name changes legally the minute you marry if you intend to take his name. Use it on AOS forms. No note needed. They see hundreds every day.  Your marriage certificate is the name change proof. Fix your name on other paperwork as you have time. There is no one official starting point for name change. Walk out of ceremony and use your new name whether your DL or SSN say so yet or not.

Least at  Ohare you don't go to the typical tourist, visa wavier line. There is a separate line for immigrant, H1B, L, F and all other visa line, so I assume the officer there is more prepared to deal with this type of visas. I was proactive and ask the ground personnel which line you should I stand because I didn't see the line at the end of a huge place. I was out faster than the turist visa/vwp.
