Just some info:

For those of you who may be waiting for confirmation from the NVC, or London Embassy until you book your medical - I have just booked mine. The first appointment available was 27/07/18. All they asked is if I had my police certificate, and my case number.

My Case has been at the NVC since 8th of June.

If you are trying to stick to a specific timeline, you may want to book sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

You will need the letter for the medical though

You get an e-mail from the NVC confirming case number etc. Visa Medicals state that you must bring:

  1. A Letter/Email from the embassy/NVC to confirm your case number and visa category

So the e-mail I have received is fine :)

Yes, I have. they sent me an e-mail when my case changed to in transit and was shipped off to the embassy.

Your original post implies that you don't need to wait for confirmation. Just don't want people getting false hope! You need the new case number and generally the quickest way to get this is the email. My fiance called every day to get the updated number however we got the email a matter of hours later so didn't gain anything dwindling this. Obviously every case is unique in some ways though!

I think you perhaps misread my original post.

I stated that all I had to provide was my case number, and confirm I had my police certificate to book the appointment. Ultimately, you wouldn't be trying to book your medical if you did not have your case number, but you do not need to have written letter confirmation from the NVC / Embassy to do so.

I wanted to inform people that if they are still waiting for letter confirmation that their case has moved from the NVC, be mindful that the medical appointments are booking up pretty quick.

If you were apprehensive about booking your medical until you'd received notification in the post (like I was), I wanted to let people know that due to how far in advance the appointments are now, you will definitely receive an e-mail from the NVC with your case number (if your case has been assigned a number) before the time of the appointment comes around. i.e. if the medical appointment wait times were 2 weeks as apposed to 5 weeks, I would not have shared what I knew.

I am sharing information, not false hope. I hope this makes my point of view clearer for you.

The exact point I'm making is that it could be misinterpreted.

Good luck for your medical and interview! They are by far the easiest part of the journey for London :)
