My fiance's Venezuelan passport will be expired in September. The government will not issue him new visa, instead they issued him a two year passport extension document. I am very frustrated. His interview will come soon. Is it fine using the almost expired passport with the extension document for the consulate interview? Is someone here have the same situation? Please share your experience and help!

You should contact the embassy and ask if he will be okay arriving on that document. I have heard that some people can travel on only these type of extension documents, but I am not sure if they are accepted by CBP.

Hi. She shouldn't has any issue with that. I'm venezuelan so I know is too hard to get a new passport but your fiance can ask something called "prórroga", extension her current passport for 2 years like you said. That is completely legal and every country is accepting that.  On other hand, she must to get a new passport here in Venezuela anyway because she wil need that for make the other paperworks once she got married in USA and if in Venezula is hard to get a new passport in the embassies of Venezuela in the world is harder. Success!

Thank you very much for the information. He already applied the passport extension and is still waiting for the passport extension to be printed out.  It seems taking forever. Do you know how long will it take to get the police certificate in Venezuela? My fiance lives in Acarigua, Portuguesa. It is eight hours away by bus to Caracas. He has to take the medical exam in Caracas as well. Our visa approval is valid until October 20th. Consider the current situation in Venezuela, I am afraid that we do not have enough time to prepare those documents for the interview :(.

If you haven't had your interview, you don't have the visa yet. Your petition on the other hand is valid for 4 months from the date of approval. You can call the embassy and ask them to extend it for another 4 months, which could give you some time to gather all the documents you need.

Hello! Venezuelan here too...

The police certificate can be obtained online at the following link: http://www.mpprij.gob.ve/ he will have to register and make the request (I advice to try early in the morning because they have a daily request limit), it takes aprox 1-2 weeks to get the email saying it's ready to download from the website. Once downloaded you can print it in a regular paper, it has a bar code to prove authenticity so don't worry.

I found this link too about document reciprocity with Venezuelan government, it talks about how each documents looks like and a brief description of it and where to ask them: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Venezuela.html

Our NOA1 is feb 26 and my passport is close to expire too, I have to ask for the extension next October (timing was really bad as it will delay our case a little), that last link says that the extension is completely legal and valid to the US government : " Comments: Starting November 1, 2017, SAIME allows for two year validity extensions of expired passports. Applicants can apply for a “prórroga” online at SAIME’s webpage."

Let me know if I can help in anything else, there are not much Venezuelans asking for k1s, it's nice to help each others.

Best of lucks!

Welcome. I'm sorry I thought it was She and is He, sorry for that mistake. It's contradictory this: "Our visa approval is valid until October 20th". If he will have his interview for the visa, how is his visa will expire? I don't understand. About  his criminal record the webpage it's under "maintenance"  about 2 weeks so we can't ask for it but just the webpage be operative again he must ask for them. If you estimate the interview could be in Octuber he has time I estimate the be around that month as well. So, take it easy and he must keep be looking for the documents he needs....XOXO

I'm in Venezuela yes. You can open the webpage without any problem, the issue is when you go to ask for a new request for the criminal record and it say is in maintenance. Try it and you will see..That is around 2 weeks ago...

It's ok, no problem. What I meant for the visa approval is the K1 application approval (NOA2). We haven't scheduled the interview yet. I am waiting for him to receive his passport extension. Can I exchange his Whatsapp number with you through the private message on the website? Since both of you are in Venezuela, so it's better to have someone in the same situation to discuss and help each other.
