It's been 3 years since I have been in Philippines.

What are my options for a pocket wifi or mobile hotspot where I can get high speed internet?

I use to carry a Huawei that was G4 LTE, cost about P4,000 .      Most phones have a HOTSPOT setting also.

I have little experience but did view this VLOG from a fellow who lives in the Philippines and he has a video describing a wifi unit that he swears by. He's been using it for about 5 months now and no throttling down at all so OPEN. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVEh991-ro4

That is the pocket Hauwei, just have to make sure it is the 4G LTE ..   don't sound like a good deal renting it.   You can get the smart LTE sim for P995 a month that is 800MB/day as he is talking ... that is what I use when there.

That is the one I was told about.  It like $42 per month for a monthly special.  But it appears as if it not available anymore in Philippines.  I sent them a email today and will see what the response is

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

So do you have to buy load also?

Select "Asia" then next box select "Philippines". Data is unlimited compared to other plans.

Yes.   You can put any sim in those.  I would use SMART, they don't have unlimited plans anymore, but still better than Globe,  Globe was too spendy for very limit data.

Strangely I used Globe for my phone/text ... everyone I would call/txt used globe for that, and as you know gotta have to same "brand" ...

For the last 3 yrs, the only thing that changed in the Philippines is price. Everything is expensive now. Sorry for the unrelated answer but dont expect any changes from 3yrs ago. Internet is still slow.

I got a email back from them, They no longer offer monthly rental, it's only daily.

Daily is like $150 per month, too expensive,  They did have it for $42 per month.

It's all 2G in the provinces and 3G in the big cities with no clear and concise plan for expansion to 4G anytime soon.

I use a SkyRoam.  It is hit and miss (mostly hit).  It costs $8 a day for unlimited data and it works in hundreds of countries.  That is good when you have stopovers and dont want to use the airport's free wifi.  It isn't perfect but it has been adequate in my 10 or so visits to the Philippines.
