No. This isn't about agreeing or disagreeing with each other. We aren't discussing our opinions here.

You're wrong because you don't agree with the definition of the term "Sexual Orientation" and you have consistently confused it with whom "you have sex with", which it is not equivalent to. That isn't up for "opinion". It's a medical term, and it has a meaning that you don't yet understand.

Honestly the issue of choice in sexual orientation is irrelevant here. In order to have that discussion, you need to actually understand what the phrase "sexual orientation" means and it is clear he isn't even there yet. So discussing whether it is a choose or not gets us nowhere. We have to start with the basics.

Either you are being (purposely?} obtuse, or confused, I’m not sure which.  So let’s break it down to simple terms.  Do you agree with this definition of sexual orientation?

sex·u·al o·ri·en·ta·tion
noun
  1. a person's sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

I already provided a link to a much more detailed definition agreed upon by the experts on the subject (APA).

Your original definition was "whom I choose to have sex with", but at least if you agree with the definition you're now providing you've come a bit closer.

Say what?  How do you not have a choice?  No one is holding a gun to your head, forcing you to have sex or a relationship with anyone.  If I want to have sex with chickens in between having sex with men and women, I am free to make choice.  Everyone is.

In case you need a reminder. This is how the conversation started.

Nothing in there about attraction. Just having sex and a relationship, which I agree are both choices. Neither is sexual orientation, however.

Do you enter into relationships with people to whom you are not attracted?

Do you engage in sexual acts with people to whom you are not attracted?

You can, on both accounts. Hence why they are choices. Even individual attraction can be partly based in choice.

That's why sexual orientation isn't purely attraction.

People enter into relationships with people to whom they are attracted.  That is normal.  But do humans REMAIN attracted to the same genders all their lives?  Not always.

Heterosexuals become homosexuals become bisexuals become lesbians become heterosexuals.  Hence, it’s not always hard-wired.  People change, and act on their choices.

Sure it is.  People choose it all the time.  I can choose to be straight or gay.  I had no choice in what sex organs I was born with.  But with whom to use them is something I decide every time I use them.

No, you don't choose to be straight or gay.  But sexuality change change as it is sexuality is fluid. You, yourself can choose who you have sex with, but now who you fall in love with, that just happens based on your sexual orientation.

Wrong on both counts, in my experience.  But it’s ok to believe the way you do.

You can say what you want.  As a doctor, I get your take on the subject.  Doesn’t make it any righter than mine.  I can choose to be lesbian, gay, homosexual, pansexual... whatever I want.  What I cannot choose is the sex organs I was born with.  I am a male.  Cannot “become” a female.  Just like Brucelyn Jenner will always be a male.  How he decides he wants the world to view him... that’s his choice.  Good for him.

Just because you are a doctor doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. And in this case, you are clueless.

It's not belief, it's facts. You should research it.

I'm pretty sure he's not a doctor. I think he was talking about me.

Which is why sexual orientation isn't based purely on your "attraction of the moment".

So it... changes?  There is a choice in the matter?  Glad you finally see the light.  Took you longer than I expected.  But I still love you man.  You’re my favorite Dr. on here, by far!
