We started our k-1 visa application in July 2017. Obviously, at the time I had a valid passport. Sadly we had a lot of delays happening. We didn't receive our NOA-2 until February 2018.
At that time I still had 11 months left in my passport. But again, things took very very long. I forgot about my passport validity.

My interview is on the 26th of this month but my passport expires January 14th. That means I have to leave for the US before July 14 or it's no longer valid for 6 months.
Obviously it's cutting it very close.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Will they allow me to go when there's basically only a 2 week time frame for me to travel to the US?
If not, what would happen? I'd actually prefer to just renew my passport here because I would have to travel to another city in the US to renew my passport.

Should I just wait to see what they say at the interview or take steps now? I saw another thread of someone that called to the embassy and they told the person to bring a receipt of the new passport to the interview.
I still have Monday left so I could file for a new passport then..

I'm at a loss! Obviously this whole thing already took a year so I don't want even more delays (or get denied!!)

In order for you to travel internationally most countries now require a passport valid for at least 6 months of the date of traveling. I don’t think you’ll have any issues at the interview but I would just go get a new passport before you travel. That way you’re safe because after you get to the US on a K1 you’re gonna be in limbo for a long time and you’ll definitely feel safer having a passport valid for longer than 6 months.

Yeah, so it will be 6 months July 14! But my interview is next week. Add another week before they send my passport back, that means I have 1 week left to travel there!

I agree that I would feel safer with a new passport, but how could I apply for a new one before traveling to the US? The visa will be in my old passport, no?

You don’t have to have the visa on your new passport. Your visa is still valid no matter what your passport is. You will just travel with both passports. And if they ask you to show proof of a newer passport valid for more than six months you will have it.
