Unless your case is complicated with red flags, etc you can do this on your own. My hubby and I did my K1 to Citizenship ALL ourselves. No lawyers involved. Just with the help of this awesome forum.

I did my I-130 on my own. Did my recommendation for  NOID rebuttal on my own and got reaffirmed. It’s possible to do it yourself but everyone is different. This is a helpful community and when i needed answers i came online and found it on this site. My husband is from Nigeria as well and i petitioned for him.

My husband and I did the whole K-1 process ourselves, like a majority of the community here. Immigration is certainly not the easiest process but it's definitely not impossible to do on your own-- unless you have any legal barriers that prevents your spouse from obtaining a visa or if  you have major red flags in your case (e.g. major age difference, met only one time, married on first meeting and filed right away etc when the beneficiary is from a high fraud country and/or dealing with a difficult Embassy). Lawyers are not a guarantee for approval.

Just take your time to read through the process and all the papers, don't rush filling out the papers and make sure you add enough proof of bonafide marriage. It starts with the I-130 process and will evolve in the CR-1.

I am the applicant and my husband is petitioning me. We are almost done the process and we did not use a lawyer. Lawyers cost thousands of dollars and they can make mistakes, too. I don't recommend using one. Just educate yourselves on the process and use visajourney for questions.

How about other initial evidences like i130a,2X2 white background passport photographs of you and the beneficiary?if you didn't add them, you will be RFE'd during the later part of the i130 process.

Moreso, for the joint account, make sure you keep the account very active because your husband will most likely be asked for it during his visa interview by CO

In addition to what O&O has stated, you can add other supporting docs if you have like flight itenery of any family member that came to Nigeria with you during the wedding,a brief write up on how you both met, screenshots of calls/chat logs, add him as a beneficiary on your insurances(life, retirement)if you have one, copy of the confirmation page  of his registration with the Intergovernmental marriage committee(IMC)which enables anyone that has access to your marriage certificate number anywhere in the world access online. as well as any other supporting document you have.

For the IMC,it depends on where the marriage was done because if it was done in Ikoyi, you shouldn't bother about the registration with IMC.
