Fort Lauderdale International Airport. And yes, traveling alone.

Same exact thing happen to me also at Ft Lauderdale but the officer guiding the line shouted out looking for anyone entering with an expired green card. I raised my hand and she asked me what document I had with me and I showed her my extension letter. Immediately she took me and my husband (USC) out of the line and directed us straight to the special needs line. With that, we saved certainly 45-60 minutes in the line. However, I didn't have to fill in or present any blue customs paper. Only the regular one everybody had at hand.

Anyone planning to do apply for citizenship while their case is still pending? if so when can you apply? ... I got my Greencard Sept 20th so I won't be able to start the process until then....

I hope I will get 10 yrs card before but if not I will apply as soon as I'm eligible. I also got my green card in  Sept.

you can't do it 90 days prior.

you have to be resident for 3 years (count from the date you green card was issued ) and married for 3 years.

Also you need to count all of the days that you traveled internationally,  I personally have more that 70 days outside America in different trips I’ve taken for the last 3 years, and I even have more upcoming international trips. Although my window opens in July I won’t apply for citizenship after I recover these  +70 days back in my 3 years resident schedule. That’s my lawyers advice.

Is this really the requirements? My understanding was that the non US spouse had to remain married and also have the USA as their primary residence during the 3 year period prior to applying for citizenship?

I am sure there are a number of cases where a couple have an additional home(s) outside of the USA, and/ or they spend time abroad for business purposes. As long as the spouse applying for citizenship spends 6 months and 1 day per year residing in the USA, that would legally make the USA their primary residence.

Or is there a specific clause/ requirement in the Citizenship application that states that the applicant must have physically spent 3 whole years in the USA prior to applying for citizenship?

I would consider educating your lawyer;

Below is directly from the USCIS website:

  • Reside continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization until the time of naturalization
  • Be physically present in the United States for at least 18 months out of the 3 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application

My lawyer is well educated, thank you for the shade. It is her personal advice, not a rule. Immigration climate is very tense right now and we do not want any silly red flag to come up. Plus I am not in a rush for becoming a citizen. There's that.

well, maybe next time highlight the fact that is it a recommendation or advice instead of making people think it is a requirement. you clearly said 'also you need to'.

it is a forum and everything being said there needs to be taken with a grain of salt because we are not lawyers. But we are all here to help each other. Therefore, there is a difference when we discuss requirements and someone states something that was a personal recommendation without explaining it. So in that scenario don't be surprised that someone attacked you as above.

Quick question! My proof was received on july 11, 2018 and every time I check my case number on the old site it states "my case status does not recognize the recipient number" but when I got to the new site (myuscis) it show's as "case has been received july 11, 2018" and it's been like that for the past 8 months approximately. I was wondering if all July filers have that same issue or is it just me

For me old site says it can't provide info and to contact USCIS with 800 number. New site has the date I filed and confirms receipt of application. So, basically the same info you are getting (or aren't getting). Hoping to hear something around the 1-year mark (which would be last week of July for our application).

I have received a case update today confirming that my fingerprint review was completed. I filled at CSS. I am assuming I should receive a letter soon with the fingerprint waiver notice. Anyone else got any update ?

July 28th. Fingerprint update is only reflected on general case status tracker. MyUSCIS still shows case received.
