USCIS case status updating

Hello all,

I am rather new here and curious for feedback regarding an issue I encountered recently regarding USCIS updating. Our status is: filed I-129 (CSC) back in late Jan 2007. We often reference the (USCIS-CSC) online case status page, naturally for any changes in our status. But a few days ago over the phone my fiance'e ask me (with concern in her voice) if I would check online about her ex-fiance petition's WAC# for online status. She broke up with him in 2004 and he supposedly sent two cancelation letters in 2005 to US EMB MANILA and USCIS CSC. So I looked at the online WAC# status...To my surprize! it still indicated from April 2005, that the case was still under review with the State Dept. I realized, I needed to make a phone call and fast! to the USCIS-CSC to insure it was even canceled, cause this surely could cause problems for our processing, duhhhh.......

So I called (USCIS CSC), reached a nice gentleman and explained the story and told him I needed to know what was happening. He said to do two things: One to get ahold and set up an appointment with info-pass and secondly that he would pass me onto someone that might be able to resolve it entirely. I then was passed onto and actually connected too!!! Yeaaaa!!!! A real person!, another gentleman who was even nicer than the first! (mind you, I was in top behavior and manners, while surpressing my anxious concern and frustrations) I explained to him the status and he asked me some particular file question and then BOOM... it seemed he had archived access into a gold mind of everything case or data wise. He told me the previous petition WAC# was canceled in late 2005 by the State Department. And I didn't even ask but he also went on to tell me that my petition was approved!!!! Wow, I was so excited with the second part of the news that I actually forgot to get back to my original concern and questions regarding the website update and changes... And for now also why it didn't show my approval yet too...*(all this I though about after I got off the phone with Him)

So is it typical or does anyone know if that is normal for this USCIS to not update the case status website with relavant data or is this just an oversight....(but even from 2005?) and for not indicating the visa had truely been canceled??? Just wondering if anyone else have any kind of experiences such as this?

Thanks Solaris

Case statuses online are definitely NOT always accurate and/or updated properly. There a bunch of folks here whose cases were approved, but the status online never changed.

So don't take it as the gospel. You were right, though, to call and follow up (in this particular example).
