First off I’m sure this has been asked many times, however I’m struggling to find anything as of recent. So I apologize ahead of time if I’m being repetitive.

My fiancé (London) and I are currently preparing our I-129F and other required forms for the k1 process. We have sorted out everything except the finances involved. For the beginning of 2018 I was only working part time (because I was visting him for a few months) however, I am now working a job that would meet the income requirements. My concern is this- do they base whether or not you meet income requirements off of your w2s? Or would providing a few recent pay stubs and a letter from my boss showing my current pay be sufficient despite my previous w2 being below the required income.

they put more weight on current income than anything. so your current letter of employment and paystubs have more weight than any prior tax returns. You can also add statement of savings or assets in your list of proof of income. I used my savings and 401k although i already made 100% of the poverty line.

They go by current income. If you are an employee of a company/organization/etc. and get a W-2, then your current income is what you make in a 12 month period. What you made previously is past income.

Pay stubs and an employment letter are the primary sources to show income.

Edit: As an example, if I made $50,000 in the first 6 months of the year then got fired (with no UC), my current income is $0 despite having earned $50,000 previously.

Specifically for London, they are generally quite lenient here. Just the employment letter or pay stubs should suffice. I still suggest bringing all supporting evidence, including the most recent year's tax return (tax transcript is simplest: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript).

London can also allow the visa applicant to self-sponsor via assets.

NO, but they can if your W2 is sufficient and you still hold the same job.
