Hi Everybody,

I'm currently under the K3 process in France and before leaving to the US I have two questions:

- Work permit : it appears that I will wait around three months to obtain the approval after arriving in the US. Is there a way to have a temporary work permit meanwhile?

- Driver lincense : I need my work permit to ask for my SSN before applying for the driver lincense. As I'll probably leave in Massachusets that means that I will be without any driver authorization during a long period ( my international license should stop after 30 days in MA). What is your experience with this issue?

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Manu

No way to get an interim EAD on K-3 unless for some reason you applied for one and it is taking more than 90 days to get.

ok what is the best way , to apply with only the K3 status (a-9) or to apply with the AOS (c-9) ? What is the quickest process?

Thanks for your answer.

Manu

We filed for both the EAD (Employment Authorization Document) and the AOS( Adjustment of Status- Green Card) at the same time. Each Has its own requirements and applicable fees. EAD took 85 days and upon receiving it , I was able to get a SS Card and Drivers Licence both valid only up to the date written on my EAD Card.

Once I get my Green Card I should present it to DMV and SS Office to remove the restrictions on the dates of effectivity. My AOS application took 7 months. So it pays to consider applying fo an EAD if you want to get started with one valid proof of legal status like a EAD Card.

I hope that info helps.
