I think people are pushing the "she had a secret boyfriend you never heard about and applied for a K1 and you never found out" without realizing that it is pretty difficult to lie for years about it. Even more if she has had a boyfriend for 10 years. Who is she? A spy or something?

The easier explanation is that she either misunderstood during the interview (they could have wanted to know if she had a US boyfriend and was planning to apply for a K1) or maybe there is someone with the same name applying for a K1 (consuls are not geniuses, maybe she got a dumb one). To me, those are the most likely options.

Identity theft for a K1 would also be very difficult, particularly due to all the background checks the consulate does. But if you are concerned, she should send an email to the consulate or send a letter saying that  she does not have a pending K1 and that she was surprised at the interview to find out about the pending K1 the consul kept asking her about. Something like that.

Well...for one thing it sounds like the mother lives in the US and isn't around her daughter and seeing her daughters life....no spy needed to live a double life. I agree about the misunderstanding part, but she is pretty specific in her question that there was a pending k-1 visa, kinda hard to get to that conclusion. Most will agree that indeed identity theft is unlikely but plausible (it's the Philippines, nothing against it but there is fraud there).

I would have asked for proof of this pending k-1 visa that the CO was talking about so that you could clear this up.

Exactly. If it happened to me I would have demanded more information about this K1 at the interview, who filed it, when, where etc. No way I would have just walked away and accepted the B2 denial. Thats assuming I knew nothing about it.

Definitely looks like the daughter is not being completely thruthful.

but why would she hide it. and if she had a fiancee in the US she doesnt need to file a tourist visa because in the long run she will be coming there if the boyfriend petition her.

who knows? people do strange and stupid stuff all the time. If that is what happened, it could be because she feels family or friends wouldnt approve (of the person). Could be because she just wants to be in the US and has no intention of it being a 'real' relationship. could be .... i dunno. i got nuthin after those two. lol

please please keep us updated, i really do want to know what really happened. either way, it makes for some interesting discussion and musings.... ;)

Because lots of people don’t want to wait for the “long run” so they come in on a tourist visa and then suddenly “change their minds” and get married and adjust status.

The key question for me here is you said the officer confirmed this on her passport number. Doesn’t just seem to be a case of mistaken identity.

Did you actually ask her?

yes i did ask her. i even ask her if she is keeping secret about a fiancee. she told me that i know that she had a boyfriend. they are together for 10 years. she has a nice job why would she want to leave everything just to come to US.

you are right about people dont want to wait. but my daughter doesnt want to reside here in the US. before i come here, i even ask them if they want to come with me. but they refuse.
