Oh they're starting another one? When I was filing for K1 someone wanted to do something similar to USCIS.

Back in 2008 when we first filed our I130 USCIS lost the copy of our marriage certificate.  You know...sort of important when filing for a marriage based visa.  And trust me, I thought EXACTLY like you!  THE INJUSTICE!!!!  The HORROR!  The blatant DISRESPECT!!!  Trust me, I felt it.  I felt like we wait and pay our fees, and our taxes and they end up losing our stuff?  GAH!!

 

But then perspective sits in.  I am in the US with my husband, a US citizen (and we have many more hiccups after our initial RFE for the marriage certificate) and now that the journey is all over, I realize that it is just that, a little hiccup.

But trust me, I know how you felt.  But in the long run, this is pretty minor.  Refile and start prepping for the naturalization process, which is also long, arduous and, if anything like my naturalization journey, infinitely more frustrating!

If a copy of your GC was not included in the packet they returned to you a) your memory is wrong or b) they lost it when organizing your file. If b, oh well, bad luck! My wife's packet was returned with that same notice last year, although I do know for certain we forgot to include a copy of the GC. No big deal to just add that one extra page and mail the packet back in.

Here is how our paperwork is handled in the CSC. Now you know why they lost your copy of your green card. I think that's my K1 petition on the top left stack, should have my NOA2 any day now...... NOT!

Huh? You can't file more than 90 days before the GC expiration.

It's a rejection, not a denial. Therefore no big deal. Just send the package back and include the missing info. At this point it doesn't matter whether they lost something or you forgot. What's done is done.

Imagine how many documents one USCIS person sees during the course of a day.  In your work have you not misplaced something? Are you perfect?

 

Chill!! As you have been told, your problem is not unique or life ending. Next time begin the process at the earliest opportunity rather than waiting until the last minute.

 

If you are unsure about anything, review your paperwork with an immigration attorney.

Would be so much easier if they would finally just allow petitions to be send online- with scans of all documents. And then you'd show originals during the interview. Imo then chances  of losing stuff would be smaller.

I don't know if I could trust their system if that happened since their system can't even handle something simple as an address change....
