If I change my name legally, am I required to update green card?

Hello,

I have legally changed my first name. In doing research online, I see very conflicting answers for whether I'm actually required BY LAW to change my green card as well. USCIS website for example, do not give a direct answer to this, for example: https://my.uscis.gov/exploremyoptions/renew_green_card showing sections for MUST vs. MAY, with name change being in the MAY section. My impression from this is that it is okay for me to leave my green card as is. Also this: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1209/~/us-citizens%2Flawful-permanent-residents-name-does-not-match-documents

I plan on proceeding with an application for US citizenship in the next year, wasn't sure if I could safely wait until that time or not. I know this website to be very good about giving clear answers, so I am here hoping someone can chime in, preferably one who has been through this!

Thank you kindly!
