Babies aren't going to a zoo or a theater. Tell me, where do the nursing babies go? The ones that need diaper changes and cribs? As I said, some of this stuff was going on during the previous admin too. Oversight is needed.

Yeah, if you read the article this bus is from the Obama administration. And it does actually go to zoo and other field trip. They take the kids from one of the detention center. You should google it. Fact check and all that.

I have and I don't buy it. I'm repeatedly told on this forum there is so much fake news these days and fact checkers cannot be trusted. ^_^

And yet you believe these are abhorrent conditions based solely on news accounts.  The interesting thing is how up in arms the news media is about this now when as you said, some of this happened with the last administration as well.  Where was the media outrage then?

Nope. Simply they were never given any opportunity to meet that criteria. They literally present themselves and state their asylum claim, or before they can do so, they are told to ''go away, no room''. Additionally, recent directives from Sessions are of concern. If one moves the goalposts or removes points of what a person can claim asylum on - such as slavery/servitude, domestic violence, rape and fear of life, what could many of these women claim to begin with? Seriously, quite a few cases in the court system right. The logic here is horrifying how some asylum seekers have been treated.

For the moment, it doesn't appear that this is the thought because at the going rate they cannot keep up. How exactly can they prove it in some cases, and for at least 1500 kids (though McClatchy has a post up now saying nearly 6000 kids) have been completely lost. Not merely that the supposed 'relative' failed to pick up the phone either!

First of all, I don’t think there are just women applying.  I realize that they look more victimized so the media focuses on them, but I am sure there are men as well.  Additionally, where in the I589 does it list domestic violence, or rape as grounds for asylum?

Nolo seems pretty clear on this.

The difference is Trump (through Sessions) recently decided to enforce/prosecute 100% of people, which very quickly increased the number of people that this was happening to. It probably happened in the past, but to only a handful at a time. Now we have a couple thousand, at least.

I feel bad for the children no matter what as they seem to always be stuck in the middle. Hopefully news spread that this isn't the best option to file an asylum.

It probably is not the best option in a lot of situations, but many people may still see it as the "only option", even when faced with the prospect of being separated from family. I can't imagine being in that position.

There was no Inspector General's report to bury.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

we have made it far too inviting and easy for them to come for far too long.

I have it on the same excellent authority that, in USCIS asylum hearings (not to be confused with Immigration Court), the USCIS officers do not ask, "If we let you stay, what precisely do you have to offer the United States?"

In addition, there's a marked difference between the uneducated, untrained Central Americans (who are chiefly the subject of this thread) and educated, often-bilingual Venezuelans in terms of performance during their respective asylum hearings.  The latter group's rationales for the granting of asylum are stronger, more specific, and better reasoned than are the often manufactured claims of the former.  Not at liberty to divulge details other than to say that the foregoing pattern became clear and consistent over a period of months in a ferociously busy center.

Yes, Trump is enforcing the duly passed laws on the books?  There have been many discussions regarding the border wall, some for, some against, and many of those against it said there were already enough laws on the books to protect the border and no wall was necessary.  Sounds like Trump/Sessions listened to those critics.  We could advocate Congress to pass the Feinstein bill, it essentially ends all federal prosecutions if a perpetrator has a kid nearby.

Now you are learning.

Anyone can make up claims or can produce random anecdotes. The ones worth discussing have actual data to back them up.

I would rather trust official sources than a random person on this forum making stuff up. I've been here long enough to not trust most of you ;)
