So to be clear, you were correct that I have not seen people cheering Fonda on; then again, I wouldn’t, since I don’t watch TV (other than Netflix at home, and whatever CNN/FOX BS I happen to watch in public places while wasting time.  I didn’t make the meme, but I think it has merit.  IMHO, Fonda should lose his movie rights at a minimum, and be subjects to secret service scrutiny for comments against the president’s family.  He apologized, and now all is ok.  I think Roseanne apologized, too.  And look at the difference.  The hypocrisy.  Perhaps you see it.  Perhaps you don’t.  Perhaps you are smiling inside, perhaps you are not.  At the end of the day, none of it really matters to you and I, eh?  It’s just a sign of how very messed up and divided our country is.  And it’s getting worse by the day.

The meme was misleading and therefore lacked merit. It had literally two pieces of information, and one was false. If you agree that it was misleading, it should have never been posted. Find one that conveys the message without lying. Simple as that.

 

As I said before I completely agree with the comparison, but if we are all going to complain about misleading media (like the photo of the little girl), we shouldn't be sharing anything that is so blatantly lying. People will see an image like that and believe that it is true. We shouldn't be propagating that.

 

As fory opinion of Trump - I've also said it many times that, when it counts, I don't want to see him fail (North Korea, for example). But I also think we need to be able to be open about things we disagree with. He is President, not a Dictator who shuts up dissidents (despite his apparent jealousy over that ability).

Nothing will stop the memes from coming, even though few are 100% accurate.  It’s been going on here for years, and will never stop.  I used to hate it, but have some to accept is as just the way things are.

 

People make memes to fit their mindset.  Had I created it, I would take your heat.  But I didn’t, so I won’t. Even if you don’t like it, and claim it doesn’t, it DOES have merit, because it illustrates the blatant hypocrisy that is alive and well in our country.  I know you can see it, even if you don’t like the method of delivery of the message.

 

We can discuss whatever we want about Trump, and don’t believe for a moment he wants to be a dictator.  Does he want to be popular?  Sure.  Liked?  I doubt he cares.  He hasn’t cared for all the years before he became president, so why would he now?  Obama was able to shut up a lot of people by playing the race card (or at least his supporters did, daily), but Trump can’t really do much to stem the tide of hatred against him.  Except keep on delivering.  Hopefully, he does.

It illustrates hypocrisy by lying/being misleading, which basically negates any valid argument it might have. As I said at the beginning. It could have made the point without any lying. The hypocrisy is quite evident and straight forward. It fails by going too far and ultimately negating its message by being part of the bigger problem 

 

We have to try to have a higher standard. Maybe those memes will continue to crop up here, but you are smart enough not to be apart of it. You may have to accept it, but you don't have to actively disseminate it.

I don't think any of us should underestimate how many people likely get information from memes on the internet without actually fact checking anything.

 

I'm really not sure if the internet has made the population more or less well informed...

We should look at facts and not something that can be manipulated. For example if you're reading a news article and they're citing some report or whatever, read the report and see if they're just handpicking whatever fits their narrative or what they are saying is actually true. Memes, photos etc can be manipulated either through editing or as in the case of the little girl and the mother... Picked from an archive of pictures to fit the narrative.

Everything can be manipulated.  It is not just meme’s that are subject to being manipulated.

Sure I did, and even reports referenced can be manipulated, and often times reports chosen as reference are picked because they promote the narrative the news story is attempting to promote.  I am all for getting everything out there and not limiting the media to a couple of large outlets.  People need to do their own research and not rely on some newsreader or writer to tell them what to think.
