Immigrant Children Cry Out in Audio Recorded at Detention Center

Well CPS doesn't have large detention centers with hundreds of children all in one place. The vast majority of the time the child is placed with family, or a friend, or even a neighbor that the child is familiar with. If that doesn't work the next best option is a foster family. Only after those are exhausted do they turn to group homes. And you're right - those aren't great places for children. But that is only done when every attempt to keep the children together with family is tried. It isn't the first step in the process.

Absolutely agree. At best let's say that takes 48 hours. What do we do until then?

You have a six year old and a couple "claiming" to be her parents. She says "mommy" and "daddy" and responds appropriately to them. I'd have a hard time saying "to be safe I'm going to assume these aren't your real parents, and instead place you in this facility with other children of varying ages".

I travel up to Canada with just my son quite a bit. I have since he was 3. I have always observed a fairly straight forward and consistent process of questioning, starting with myself where is his mother, where can we contact her, why isn't she here. After that they talked to my son for a bit. The first time we traveled they had me step back a few feet and they asked him questions I couldn't hear, which were basically about who am I, where is his mom etc.

Long story short, CBP at any international border is already familiar with the basics of assessing this situatation.

I'm not surprised.

The difference is they were probably assuming your were the parent unless something suspicious arose. As opposed to assuming you weren't until you could "prove" to them you are.

I don't know, CBP officers, COs, and IOs often may assume the worst until proof shows otherwise.  The story SB related seems similar, particularly related to the way they questioned the son the first time potentially assuming something nefarious.  Now that there is a regular record of their travel, they may be more at ease when they arrive at the Southern border (just a joke as for me you actually have to go South to enter Canada).

That is my understanding.  Of course, the line at CBP moves slow, and some decide to pay helpers to get across illegally.  That is really the big change recently that they are detaining illegal border crossers for prosecution and this is when the children are being separated if present.

There are organizations in central America that help guide illegals to the border for the express reason of exploiting the asylum loophole.

No doubt.  I am still surprised that kids are coming alone.  You would think that would be more traumatic as anything HHS is doing while their parents work their way through the legal system.

More lucrative than drugs apparently, well often combined.

Isn't it the media who is showing us this?

No, but they are media, I suppose. Should the title have said facilities that "mainstream media" won't show you?

You can't expect places like the daily caller to handle details like that.

Maybe that's partly why they aren't "mainstream media"...

Could you send me the link to those numbers?

"Record numbers" doesn't mean much. One case could be a record, if it was the first. Not saying that's the case here but, you know...

You were in the US in 2012, and 2014, correct?  Remember the EO for DACA?  And the huge influx of illegal children crossing the border?

You know, kids that cannot be detained for doing it illegally, but their parents/coyotes can.  Pretty much a win/win situation for families outside the US.  Get the kids across in 2014, then the rest of the family has a better chance in 2024.  And even if that fails, there is a money source in the US that likely will never end for a generation or two.  Illegal Immigrant 101.

The guidelines for DACA state that you had to have continually resided in the USA since June 15th 2007.

Still no actual sources of data.

I'm not surprised anymore. Don't bother quoting me if you aren't going to actually address the post you're quoting.
