Immigrant Children Cry Out in Audio Recorded at Detention Center

I realize the US cant accept every human who wants to live here.

But this practice of separating toddlers from their parents is just cruelty.

“Mami!” the children’s voices cry out, between sobs. “Papá!”

A recording of immigrant children calling out desperately for their parents after being separated from them by United States immigration authorities was released on Monday by the investigative news site ProPublica.

The recording, nearly eight minutes in length, added disturbing and intimate notes to the debate over the Trump administration’s practice of separating children from their parents when families are detained at the border.

Where are their Embassies in all this, I would have hoped they would be there arranging a speedy homecoming. What is going on?

An unknown percentage of these "parents" aren't the parents at all, but rather other people who were paid to get the children across the border... and even human traffickers.

Of course we should feel sympathy, compassion, etc. for the children who are being separated from their real parents.  However, such emotion needs to be compartmentalized before any policy or law is formulated on that basis.

The mainstream media should be ashamed for focusing all their attention on this story rather than on the Inspector General's report.  Which story, after all, is bigger news?  They should also be ashamed for not helping to quell the south-of-border presumption that "if we show up at the border, we'll get in."

Most of the influx at the Laredo POE is of Mexicans, whereas most at the McAllen POE is of Central Americans.  Why isn't the government of Mexico condoning the breaking of its own laws, in that its citizens must have their papers in order before traveling to another country?  Why isn't the government of Mexico turning back the flood of Central Americans who are illegally entering Mexico?

Therefore, end of argument.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

No.

The argument is, don't separate a toddler from her parents.

Refuse them entry together, or detain them together, or let them in pending asylum together, but don't rip young children from their parents arms.

We are the United States of America. We aren't Al Qaeda, we don't practice cruelty for no reason.

Reminds me of the kids of criminals as their dads go to prison again.  Sad state of affairs.  If only people could follow the law and stay out of jail, eh?

Requesting asylum is not illegal.

Administration is separating children (2000 the past 6 weeks) from parents who are lawfully presenting at border and requesting asylum, not just those entering illegaly.

DNA testing can establish parenthood in a matter of hours.

And how exactly is the party of evangelical Christians defending the practice of separating young children from their parents? I somehow doubt Jesus would approve.

So you are suggesting the toddlers are put in an immigration center with adults?  Also, how does CBP verify the adults with the children are actually the parents and not traffickers?  I am sure every adult trying to cross is truthful.

DNA testing takes time especially with how many are arriving every week now.

Whose fault is it that these parents who KNOW that they will be separated now continue to arrive in the country illegally? Because they are not actually claiming asylum at the POE they are crossing illegally and only trying to claim asylum when they are caught.

That seems to be a big myth, that all these folks are coming through inspection.

Seriously I had to explain this to a couple different people last night. One guy was stating that "if they would actually let people through the POE to claim asylum, then they wouldn't have to cross illegally." Which they are letting people in but only small amounts everyday not the hundreds that have been crossing. This is just another Faux outrage that will last a week or 2 if that.

I am no expert on US History but assumed the US had been jailing parents since 1776.

Why the outrage now?

Too bad we don’t have a wall to keep the folks from entering other than at the POEs.
