I can't find a link to it but there was a huge item on the news this morning about how Churches are deliberately assisting illegal immigrants subject to deportation by advising them of their "rights", telling them not to cooperate with ICE, law enforcement, not to sign anything etc, etc and allowing them into Churches as a place of sanctuary so they cannot be deported. The woman who was the representative of Justice for Immigrants which is a Church-based organization was saying that the laws on illegal immigration are wrong and should be changed, and that because the US has turned a blind-eye to illegal immighrants for such a long time by not enforcing laws, they can't now all of a sudden start enforcing them, it's against the illegal immigrants' rights and the church will do all they can to help them.

How messed up is that?

Why is the Church even getting involved in such things? Thats seems wrong to me to claim to be a Christian and then assist someone who has broken the law.

Came across this interesting link trying to find the link to today's new story kind of along similar lines.

That kind of justification makes my blood boil.

Thats seems wrong to me to claim to be a Christian and then assist someone who has broken the law.

Really? I thought Jesus forgave, helped, and healed many a lawbreaker.

That's correct he did. Jesus set an example for us by being a friend to the "least of these."

This is not news - it has been happening in Chicago for a long time now and has been well publicized. It doesn't matter who is helping an illegal alien or where they are hiding. Being holed up in a church doesn't stop ICE from coming in and deporting them if they so choose. And I find it hard to believe that a church is "deliberately assisting illegal immigrants subject to deportation by advising them of their "rights", telling them not to cooperate with ICE, law enforcement, not to sign anything etc". More likely the church is advising them what the best course of action is if they find themselves in deportation proceedings, similar perhaps to what a lawyer might advise.

yes jesus forgave the sins. he also advocated you must be responsible for the consequences of your deeds.

there are two kinds of sinners

1) the unjust => does not know he is committing sins until being made aware of the sin.

2) the wicked one (wrong doer) => knows he is doing wrong and continues to do wrong by his own will.

to continue disobeying the law is (fill in the blank) _______________

to assist people in breaking the law is (fill in the blank) _______________

good question ..

The churches want the state out of their business ... but the churches want into the states (gov't) business ?

the next question is ... why doesn't being politically active and/or breaking the law automatically remove a church's tax exempt status ?

I would imagine some christians aren't really concerned about arbitary human designated bounderies such as borders when it comes to humanitarian concerns.

Of course, it really comes down to how you look at the 'ownership' rights of countries over land and legitamacy of borders, particularly where these borders demark whether a family can survive or faces starvation.

Still, how to discriminate between the destitute and those pesky illegals whos only concern is undermining the US by insidiously breaking laws and laughing in the face of legitimate citizens. Oh yes, I remember, it's not your problem...

it’s called political asylum … does the "pesky illegal" meet the requirement ?

maybe the "christians" should send their $$$ to the people facing starvation and also spend their time/ money to change the problem where the humanitarian needs are located.

you know the saying: give a man a fish .. or teach a man to fish :P

It'll probably suprise you to learn that there are christians that do that too. However, they also can't seem to walk past anyone who is in need, bloody christian ethics. Maybe the only true American Christian is the right wing christian...now there's an interesting contradiction.

I have no problem if a church is politically active on an issue but harboring illegals and/or teaching them how to circumvent immigration laws is another thing.

FYI - "Churches are deliberately assisting illegal immigrants subject to deportation by advising them of their "rights", telling them not to cooperate with ICE, law enforcement, not to sign anything etc, etc and allowing them into Churches as a place of sanctuary so they cannot be deported" are not my words - these were the exact words used on the TV news this morning where they had a "discussion" between the representative of the Justice for Immigrants organization who is doing this, the newscaster and the Minutemen organizer.
