Old South African birth certificate

This is probably a question for others South Africans on here, but maybe someone from another country will have had a similar experience.

I have recently passed NOA2 and understand that I am going to need an unabridged birth certificate (complete with parents' names and place of birth) for my K1 interview coming up.

I have managed to get one from my parents but its from 1994 and so is understandably quite old. It's an official document, but because it's so old all the entried have been filled in with pen.

Will this being so old be a problem or should I go through the long, complicated route of applying for a new one through home affairs?

I've attached a scan of it here with the names and id numbers removed for obvious reasons.

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that they're going to have an issue with the fact it was written over in pen. I think your best bet is going to be filing for a new one.

@Alex Gaillard

Below is what they stated amongst what i am required to bring to my interview in the packet 3 that the US embassy in Sandton sent me last month. My interview is next month.

*(A South African birth certificate must be computer-generated, hand-written birth certificate will NOT be accepted.)

Alex,

There are two parts to the birth certificate requirement. First, that it be long-form. Second, that it be computer-generated.

Long-form birth certificates are those that include the details of parents in addition to that of a child. That is what you have. Computer-generated birth certificates are those that are completed digitally. Your present birth certificate does not pass the second part of the requirement. Hence, you need a new birth certificate that meets the requirements. The general consensus on this site is that the process is relatively quick and painless.
