My dad passed away and my PH passport expired

My dad just passed away this morning and my PH passport expired June 18 this year, what are my options? I read about travel document or extending my passport but what I am worried about is how will I get back here in US? I will just be planning to stay for two days there. I am so sad that I won't get to see my dad one last time. =(

I am from Texas and I read the nearest consulate is in LA. =( I am a permanent resident and have the letter for one-year extension since I am applying for removal of conditions (I751)

I'm not sure about your country, but if I were to travel to my country in a nonstop flight, I would be able to enter my country with an expired passport as long as the consulate attaches a letter to it. You should ask the consulate about that option.  They might even allow you to mail the passport expedite back/forth to make it faster.

If that works, you can get a new passport in the Philippines as long as they do not take forever to give you one.

Will they let you board the flight without a valid passport or or valid travel document?

Sorry to hear this, it really makes it difficult being so far away! Are you going to be able to go? Is it fee-sable for you to go and then just stay in Philippines until you get your passport renewed, or do you have a job and family in the US? I know it takes a long time in the Philippines to do anything like this (you know government bureaucracy!). Hope it works out for you!

You need a passport to travel internationally. Even if you are a permanent resident and have your greencard you still need a passport. Like others have said you’ll need to contact your embassy and request an emergency passport. Always renew your passport at least 6 months before it expires even if you don’t have a trip scheduled. Emergencies always happen.

Only emergency passports are available on a walk-in basis.  Please be aware that the rules for emergency passport issuance are strict, and a consular officer will determine if your situation meets the standard for an emergency.  If your situation is not considered an emergency, you will need to book an online appointment and return to the embassy on that day.  Before coming to the embassy, please read all the instructions for the passport service you need.  The options are listed on the menu to the left.

OP is a Filipino citizen and needs a PI passport. That's for a US passport for a US citizen. They are a green card holder.
