Everyone,

I have used the search function on the forum, but still have a few questions to ask.

I am filling out I-134 for a K-1 fiancee visa.

1. Page 4, Part 3, Item 29 asks for the date of filing for my petition. I read that I should use the NOA1 data. However, there are 2 dates on the NOA1 - the received date and the notice date. Which do I use?

 2. Page 4, Part 3, item 38 asks if I intend or do not intend to make specific contributions... I read much discussion on this subject. What is the current best practice? Do I check intend, do not intend, or leave blank? I put the text "N/A (K-1 visa process for permanent residence)" in section 7.

3. Page 1, Part 1, Item 10 asks for USCIS Online Account Number. I don't know if I have this. I do have the receipt number from paying for the interview online. And this number fits, is the correct number of digits. Do I put this receipt number here, leave it blank, or is there a number I don't know about?

4. Page 3, Part 3, Items 4-9 Asset information. My current income from a permanent full time job is at least 5X the 125% poverty level. Should I still list my assets to be safe? I have bank records, employer letter, IRS tax transcripts, and more than a year worth of pay stubs. I plan to bring all of these to be safe. Also, do I list my 401K account balance in stocks and bonds, or would it be lumped in with my personal accounts?

5. General question on what to leave blank. I have read the confusing instructions that say to put N/A on lines that ask for things like names that don't apply. However, the PDF form won't accept the "/" slash character. I Looked at the sample form posted by VJ and noticed that SOME of the places where names and such don't apply, he put "None". But many others were just left blank.

6. Should I also fill out a i-864 to be safe? I have read that a few people were asked for this, even though it doesn't apply to a K-1 visa interview.

Thanks in advance everyone! I finally have an interview appointment with little notice, I fly out to Nicaragua for the interview 10 days from now.

Regards,

Steve

Do I check intend, do not intend, or leave blank? I put the text "N/A (K-1 visa process for permanent residence)" in section 7. I think I put n/a and wrote on the provided line about the same thing.

3. Page 1, Part 1, Item 10 asks for USCIS Online Account Number. I don't know if I have this. I do have the receipt number from paying for the interview online. And this number fits, is the correct number of digits. Do I put this receipt number here, leave it blank, or is there a number I don't know about? That's something you have to sign up for. You probably didn't sign up for it so leave it. This comes straight from the instructions " If you have previously filed an application, petition, or request using the USCIS online filing system (previously called USCIS Electronic Immigration System (USCIS ELIS)), provide the USCIS Online Account Number you were issued by the system"

Better safe than sorry.

Hand-write N/A in black pen. This is from the instructions " Answer all questions fully and accurately. If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been married and the question asks “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed"

6. Should I also fill out a i-864 to be safe? I have read that a few people were asked for this, even though it doesn't apply to a K-1 visa interview. Packet 4 from the embassy specifically lists to bring the I-134. The I-864 is used for AOS

This is based off of my experience with the K1 process. Take it with a grain of salt based on what others will suggest :)

Good luck, I'm glad you are getting to the end. Be careful and smart during your time there and not just while you are in Managua; everywhere at this point where there the tranques are as the worst conflict is concentrated there. Do go out after dark as the JS and paramilitary drive around and "hunt people" in the words of my Mother-in-law. You are probably less of a target than the nationals and students but just don't mess with that :-/ .

If your fiancé has a lot of clothing or stuff she wants to bring, I suggest bringing an empty suitcase with you and take it back full so she has less to deal with when she comes. That's what we did when we went through this process; I filled up a big sea bag full of pants and shirts so he wouldn't have to drag all that through the airports.

Thanks YecaCruz. My fiancee grew up in a rough neighborhood in Tipitapa, so she is very street wise. My flight arrives early in the morning, and the interview is also very early morning. So we will only travel during the "safer" times of day. I plan to remain hidden away in her apartment for the remainder of the time.

Yes, I am bringing a large, empty suitcase so I can bring some of her clothes back with me. If the visa isn't approved, or is delayed due to problems with documentation, I will leave the suitcase with her for later use.

I am hoping that the truce which was reached several days ago holds, although there has been terrible incidents of violence since then. My biggest worry is not being able to travel between the airport/apartment/embassy.

Steve
