Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but here is how I see it. You come to the USA get married on a K-1. Just for worse case scenario let's say you get married right at the end of your 90 days. Right now Adjustment of status is taking approximately 12-18 months to get your green card. Then you can file for naturalization 3 years after you get your green card. The wait time for naturalization is approximately 12 months. Then after you get your citizenship you can apply for mom. Another 12-18 months to petition for mom.

So lets add that up. 90 days(marriage) + 12-18 months(AOS) + 3 years(eligible for citizenship) +12 months(citizenship petition) + 12-18 months(to petition for mom). That equals about 7 years and 3 months until your mother can come. At minimum if you get married immediately and if the AOS, naturalization and petitioning mom go quick and smooth you will only be able to shave off just about a year.

You missed one thing..... if, in 5 years the IR5 category is still available... probably will be  considering  the rate at which current attempts at  immigration reform are going !!!!

So your saying by the time they are eligible to petition for mom, approximately 5-6 years from when she arrives, that visa category may not even be available anymore. And if it is still available, we have to add the 7+ years I calculated the process to take (from her arrival) and then add in the wait the k-1 visa will take currently. She's looking at over 8 years from now until mom will be able to have a visa.

IR 5 is one of the immediate relatve categories that is being dropped if the current legislation in the Congress  is passed.

If the IR 5 is still a valid category when the OP receives Naturalization, the application for her parent can be submitted the same day. Current processing time for IR5 is 12 to 18 months. No idea what it might be in 5 to 6 years from now

His I think.

My fiance told me it'd take about a year but you guys are telling me otherwise.. I didn't research as I trusted him. It's okay though. we'll probably visit her while we're married and pass time together, we'll make it through.

And if you had researched would you still have wanted to come on the K-1 Visa?  I would hope you still trust your fiancé.

Just so you know. Once you get married and file for AOS - you CANNOT leave US until you either receive travel permit or green card. It WILL take months.

Actually, leaving is easy - it's the getting back in without a travel permit or green card that's impossible!

Prolly should have married mom and brought junior in as a derivative

No derivatives for a spouse of  a USC (although if she's under 21 then a K-1 for a fiancee + K-2 could work...).

Unless "JR" is under 21, that's a 7+ year wait for an unmarried son/daughter of a USC (assuming they aren't from an oversubscribed country, which is much longer). So...not really any faster in the end. :P

Please nobody take this seriously!

I know.  But based on what seems to be the OP's priorities that was still pretty funny

Sighs. Even if parent category will be dropped, as of right now it's planned to be replaced with new renewable temporary visas for parents.

People keep forgetting this and acting like having parents in the US will be absolutely impossible. So please include this info when you talk about changes. ;)

Yes, he didn't know this and thought it would be easy, too. My mother has always been next to me and supported me no matter what and accepted the fact that I'm gay, she even met my fiance. She basically means a lot to me. But I've found the right person I will settle down and build my future with, so yes, I would've still gone for it, it's gonna be tough but I've always wanted to settle down with someone I love and someone who loves me back.
