My wife has applied for me. While we wait for the approval of my visa, we are also trying to get ready for how I will find jobs as soon as I land there. Currently, I am working in State Bank of India as Assistant Vice President in Credit department. This is an above par job as per the Indian Standards. I am earning more than average salary of Mumbai. It has been over a year now in the Bank.

I also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (MBA equivalent) from a premier institute (Indian Institute of Management). I have done Bachelors in Technology before this.

Now given my profile in terms of job experience and academic background, can someone suggest something about my chances of getting a job there and how I should proceed about the same.

Thanks in advance to the VJ members.

The job market is pretty good right now, but it all depends on where exactly you will be located and your individual skills.

As noted, it's difficult to get many jobs at the same level as your current employment. The way people do business and the way credit is managed differs from area to area. So don't get discouraged if you can't jump into the same role you had before and need to work your way back up a bit.

I'm unsure if there is anything in particular that needs to be or should be validated within the US...especially within the financial sector. I suggest researching the types of job you want in your area and verifying the specific requirements and nice-to-haves there. Work on both skills beforehand so you're more equipped to hit the ground running.

Good luck.

Some immigrants have their non-US diplomas officially translated, then sent to a US based evaluation service. This provides potential employers a better perspective and reassurance of your level of education based on US standards.

You can also submit the results to local US Universities, who can inform you what course (if any) are missing that you could take at , in order to receive a diploma from them. For any positions that require State licensing (ie. CPA, Lawyer, Real Estate, etc.)

the results from the evaluation service review offset any some of their education or experience requirements.

There are many employers of Indian nationals not only H-1Bs as guest workers but also US citizens and green card holders.  You might want to sign with one of those even though you will have a green card so as to assess the opportunities in your field in you new location.  These jobs can lead to permanent full time positions. In fact, contingent work is becoming more popular for companies since they can adjust their payroll to meet their current needs. Your current experience will be valuable to multinationals.

Seems your Employer has a US presence.
