LOL I'm not even the Swede, and it drives me crazy.

He gets mistaken for Pacific/Islander or being from Asian countries mostly, because of his looks (his parents are Filipino and Spanish). People mistaken him for being Polynesian or Hawaiian, sometimes Chinese. He gets asked if he speaks "Scandinavian" a lot, lol. He happens to speak German, but I don't think he's been asked that one before. It's funny what people piece together . When someone asks how Switzerland is, he just smiles and says "Sweden. And it's very nice." lol - he's more polite than me :P

I wish I had a jersey to wear to work today! Some of my coworkers are cheering on Sweden today, which is nice :) US has sucked anyway so I guess they needed another bandwagon anyhow, haha.

Wow, I shouldn't be complaining then, he's got it worse! :P It's funny, the more I am here, the more patriotic towards my home country I am getting. Still love America of course but my accent is gone so no one knows I am Swedish unless I point out I am not American.

Yeah, I usually do the same or just go along with them if I am not in the mood to correct them.

I am actually surprised about how good the soccer coverage is here during the World Cup. I normally go back to Sweden for the summer so I was a bit nervous about how the coverage would be. Didn't think they would bother if the US didn't make it. Guess it's a good thing we have a lot of immigrants from everywhere.

That's interesting - Paul has commented on whether or not he will eventually lose his accent. His isn't straight-on Swedish; it's got a little bit of a difference to it. It may be because he grew up in a house that spoke multiple languages. His parents still speak Tagalog sometimes. I love his accent so I hope he doesn't lose it completely, lol

He was pleasantly surprised with the coverage too! We hope to visit Sweden during the summers, once he can travel again, so we can get out of the Carolina heat for a while and celebrate midsommar with his family. I'm glad the coverage here is good, because he loves the World Cup. I'm hoping we have reason to celebrate today when I get home :D

Yeah mine is 98% gone. People can tell I'm an immigrant if I start to read out loud or if I have to say the words: giraffe or France. Those two words I say it like the British people do because I learned British English in school. People seem to think I'm from the Midwest generally. My husband is disappointed my accent went away :P

Summer in Sweden is the best! Weather is usually not that great but the long summer nights with the beautiful nature is just amazing. It's always cold and/or rainy on midsommar, it's like tradition :P

I'm really hoping for a win! I thought we were done after losing to Germany but we managed to beat Mexico big time so now there's hope!

Paul's giveaway is still words with the "th" sound - "three" comes out "tree", "through" is "true", etc. I find it so adorable. I'll miss that if it goes away :P

I have yet to experience Sweden summer! I've only been there in the dead of winter, lol. Which was BEAUTIFUL - we do not get snow like that here, so I loved it. It's more expensive to travel in the summer, and it costs more to visit there from here versus visiting here from Sweden, but I think it'll be worth it. Crossing our fingers we can visit next year. He should have his AP by then, but I know he really wanted that for in case of an emergency - we've read about people still having trouble getting back into the country even with AP, since it isn't the same as being a citizen or green card holder. Maybe a miracle will happen and he'll have his GC by next summer anyway. :D

We thought so too! The Germany game really disappointed him; we were able to watch that one together because it was a Saturday. He was so mad. The Mexico game was an amazing upset!

Off (Sweden) topic - the game yesterday, I think it was Belgium and Japan (I only caught literally the last 2 minutes by the time I got home from work), was incredible! They scored that last point LITERALLY with seconds left.

I'm going to preface this by saying I've never watched the World Cup so I know very little about soccer/football.

But that final kick off at the end (or whatever it's called) was intense!  I was happy they won.

**P.S.  England men are very good looking!  Probably why I was able to pay more attention to the game than I normally would...

I really thought the Colombians had them for a minute. When they finally got that goal, their spirit improved significantly and England actually seemed a tad shook by it. The kick off at the end had me on the edge of my seat.

I am not sure that anybody expected Colombia to be so dirty, I thought they were footballers, how they did not f=give away more penaties and ended up with 11 players on the pitch I do not know, good to see England stand up to it. Referee was poor.
