Happy faces where I am.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

RIP Germany. They played poorly and even though I really do like them as a team I don't think they were anywhere near as strong as they have been in the past; they didn't deserve to move on.

For the first time ever in back to back World Cups the defending title holders have failed to advance beyond the group. Spain wins 2010 but does not advance out of the group in 2014. Germany wins 2014 but does not advance out of the group in 2018. What a world cup this is turning out to be. Now I'm just hoping Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, and Spain start playing poorly so all the usual powerhouses leave the competition and pave the way to party like its 1966 :P

Team USA isn't in the thing? Okay.

But I'm of mostly German and some Italian extraction, and they'll definitely make it, right (certainly no hope for the indeterminate Scandinavian part)? 1/2.5

And the Germans are almost always good to make at least the semifinals, right? Nope.

And after A spending the run-up to the Cup telling me how bad team Russia was, they at least got out of their (really bad) group ...

At least the women play next year, and I'm sure team USA will have reloaded ...

I was mistaken earlier. Italy won in 2006 and did not advance beyond the group stage in 2010.

Only the US takes the Ladies game seriously.

Sweden vs. Switzerland soon! Yes, they're two different countries. I hope the more they play each other in sports the less comments such as "Ah Sweden, love your clocks!" "Ah Sweden, love the alps!" "Ah Sweden, you speak German there right?". *sigh*

LOL - if I had a dollar for every time someone mistook Paul's home country for Switzerland  Someone actually gave me Swiss Miss hot chocolate once in a gift bag and when I looked confused, they said it was because of Paul's "heritage". :help:

He is at home right now with bells on waiting for kick off soon! He heard that the stadium back home is showing it on the big screen and the stadium will be filled with locals. Kinda wish we could be there.

Håll ut, y'all.

It took almost 3 years before one of my colleagues would stop asking me if I spoke German. She even found a water bottle in the break room that had a Swiss flag and brought it too me saying I forgot it there and she was so surprised when I said it wasn't mine... And yeah, someone gave me Swiss miss too at some point lol. How does Paul react when people call Sweden Switzerland? :P

Yeah I kind of miss Sweden right now. Being able to watch with other Swedes would have been nice. At least I got my Swedish soccer team jersey on and I've got a big Swedish flag hanging on the wall. :)

LOL I'm not even the Swede, and it drives me crazy.

He gets mistaken for Pacific/Islander or being from Asian countries mostly, because of his looks (his parents are Filipino and Spanish). People mistaken him for being Polynesian or Hawaiian, sometimes Chinese. He gets asked if he speaks "Scandinavian" a lot, lol. He happens to speak German, but I don't think he's been asked that one before. It's funny what people piece together . When someone asks how Switzerland is, he just smiles and says "Sweden. And it's very nice." lol - he's more polite than me :P

I wish I had a jersey to wear to work today! Some of my coworkers are cheering on Sweden today, which is nice :) US has sucked anyway so I guess they needed another bandwagon anyhow, haha.
