Process lately seems to be 12-14 months so technically you're right in the 12 months range. Some people have apparently waited up to 2 years even unfortunately but hopefully that isn't the case here.

08/15/2014 : Met Online

06/30/2016 : I-129F Packet Sent

11/08/2016 : Interview - APPROVED!

11/23/2016 : POE - Dallas, Texas

From sending of I-129F petiton to POE - 146 days.

 

02/03/2017 - Married 

02/24/2017 - AOS packet sent

06/01/2017 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received in mail

12/06/2017 - I-485 Approved

12/14/2017 - Green Card Received in mail - No Interview

We can't even travel overseas!  His Philippine passport just expired and I need to contact the Philippine Embassy here is SFO to find out if he can renew even though he does not have his permanent greencard yet.

You are right to an extent there. Certain countries and airlines require you to show some type a Visa before you even get on a airline bound to the USA. I am dual citizen and my home country required me to show my GC back then an still today my US passport before entering the security zone at the airport

Does he not have a I-551 stamp to be able to fly out? Get infopass and get one

I think he does but it's only good for 1 year.  I will check which paperwork he currently has and if still valid.  I know that he has the conditional green card but I thought its only valid for 1 year so it might be expired already.

to my understanding, because your husband and my coworker is on the same situation...my coworker has a conditional green card which is expired and he gets a I-551 stamp on his passport to be able to fly to his home country and back to the US

He has advance parole right? If so that (and his valid passport) is all that is needed to re-enter the US. 

 

EDIT: I thought he was applying for adjustment of status, not removal of conditions on permanent residency
