How Do I Count Household Size?

Your household size includes yourself and the followingindividuals, no matter where they live: any spouse, anydependent children under the age of 21, any other dependentslisted on your most recent Federal income tax return, allpersons being sponsored in this affidavit of support, and anyimmigrants previously sponsored with a Form I-864 or FormI-864 EZ affidavit of support whom you are still obligated tosupport. If necessary to meet the income requirements to be asponsor, you may include additional relatives (adult children, parents, or siblings) as part of your household size as long asthey have the same principle residence as you and promise touse their income and resources in support of the intendingimmigrant(s).

how do u really count the household size?

Not sure how to answer this.. but from my perspective, I live in an extended family situation.. My parents, my brother and his wife, and soon it'll be me and my wife. As far as counting dependents in my case, I did not count my parents or my brother as dependents even though they live in the same house as me, so the only dependent would be my wife, and therfore i put 2 for the household size, (me and my wife)

May be others can clarify...

Your parents fit none of the description you quoted. However, the I-864 is a tricky document with regard to household size anyway. I would say your household is you and the person being sponsored, so two. But that is in the context of you qualifying as the sole sponsor. If you are going to use your parents as co-sponsors, then this is beyond my area of knowledge. I would recommend you contact NVC, explain your situation and get specific direction from them.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

They do if he wants to include their financial resources with his own.

The posts that chizza refers to may have been based on the interim rules for I-864, which stated that any relative by blood, adoption, or marriage living in the same residence was to be counted as a Household Member. Dependency not an issue, if a relative lived in the same residence they were a Household Member. The final rule has changed that, now a relative living in the same residence who is not a dependent need not be a Household Member, but they can be if the Sponsor needs their money.

Snipping that removes context is party foul, Yodrak. I covered the assumptions made with that statement and indicated the answer would be different if the petitioner wasn't the sole sponsor.

Again, the English language is a wonderful thing. We use sentences and paragraphs, not just phrases taken out of context.

They do if he wants to include their financial resources with his own.

pushbrk,

I quoted the specific issue on which I wished to comment. You wrote that his parents fit none of the descriptions quoted by chizza when in fact they do fit one of the descriptions.

Nothing in the other parts of your post that I did not quote indicated that you recognized the applicable description that I pointed out. Indeed, you had indicated just the opposite - "If you are going to use your parents as co-sponsors, then this is beyond my area of knowledge." I didn't see any need to reiterate that.
