Hi everyone! I'm in the process of adjusting my status ( AOS-EAD-AP) after entering the USA on K1 visa. I was wondering If I'm legally allowed to start looking for a job before getting my EAD on hand, considering I start working as soon as I get it? ( Just want to save some of my time and be ready to work as soon as I'm eligible to) Thank you for all your responses

8/16/17 --- AOS Packet received Chicago USCIS Day 0

8/21/17  --- Received email & text notification 

8/23/17  --- Received hard copy of NOA  

9/01/17  --- Biometrics letter notice for I-485 & I-765 & I-131  

9/11/17  --- Biometrics Appointment Done

10/17/17 - Case Is Ready To Be Scheduled For An Interview

11/30/2017 - EAD/AP Approved
12/01/2017 - Card in Production
12/05/2017 - Received Approval Notice in the Mail
12/06//2017 - Card Mailed (Priority Mail) to Me
12/07/2017 - Card Received 

1/19/18  --- Interview Date 2/21

2/21/18  ---  Approved on the Spot

  • 1 hour after the interview received uscis mobile app alert
  • Status changed from "Interview is scheduled" to "New Card Is Being Produced

2/26/18  --- Received hard copy of NOA for the Green Card

2/26/18  --- USCIS Mobile Status changed to "Card was mailed to me"

2/28/18 --- Permanent Resident/Green Card received :jest:

You can look for a job but you can NOT work until you have your EAD card in hand. Remember that your EAD can take from 3 to 5-6ish months.

Yes, you can start job hunting as soon as you want. Given how long it is taking to get an EAD card these days however, I'm not sure I'd recommend starting ASAP. It would be frustrating to get a job offer and not being able to take it due to USCIS being so slow...

yes you can, just remember that you cannot actually start working till you get your EAD on hand. also be honest and do not misrepresent your status on the application forms.

 

i have been looking for a job since jan but have not landed one until now. so the whole process can take a while. in hindsight i should have started sending out my resumes way before i got my EAD.

Passport 17-Feb-22 Drop-off at USPS (expedited processing and shipping) ~ 22-Feb-22 Status: In Process ~ 08-Mar-22 Passport book shipped ~ 09-Mar-22 Status: Approved. Passport book in hand.

N-400     28-Jun-21 Filed online ~ 28-Jun-21 Received NOA + "Biometrics will be re-used" notice ~ 14-Dec-21 Interview scheduled ~ 25-Jan-22 Interview. Approved. Case status: Oath will be scheduled.  ~ 01-Feb-22 Oath scheduled. ~ 14-Feb-22 Oath ceremony.

Sure. You can even apply for jobs just fine. You just can't work until you have the EAD. Be honest with the employer and hope they don't mind waiting.

If you do get a firm job offer, you can request an expedite of the EAD by calling USCIS.

2017 isnt valid enough? Need to search a bit @Mariia.

 

Anyways, you can search for jobs, however keep in mind that no employer will be able to hire you without EAD or GReen Card. There are cases where people get an Job Offer letter but doesnt have EAD nor GC and start moaning even though they new the game rules. This is it. Good luck
