cheese is NEVER excessive. yummmmm

I'm a little confused, when I see sandwiches etc in the Us it generally always says "Genuine US cheese replica" or words to that effect, and I don't understand why the fast food outlets ask you if you want 'cheese with that' on everything, a fillet of fish does not need cheese ><

I agree...way too much cheese. I can't eat that much cheese, it makes me sick. I LOVE cheese, but in sensible amounts! Also, 'American cheese' isn't cheese, it's congealed and colored vegetable fat. Processed cheese is SO nasty. I want proper cheeses only...emmentaler, wensleydale, cheshire, a good strong cheddar! I criticize the Brits a lot, but credit where it's due...they do make extremely good cheese.

there's plenty of real, high quality AMERICAN cheeses that could definitely rival those of europe. forget the kraft singles #######. lol

I like Monterey Jack. :)

What are the good American cheeses? I'm unforgiveably ignorant of my country's native cheeses. When I say 'American cheese' I am referring not to the USA's entire repertoire of cheeses, but rather the yellow, processed garbage that Kraft puts out.

Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon chips

Ingredients

  • 2 kiwis, peeled and diced
  • 2 Golden Delicious apples - peeled, cored and diced
  • 8 ounces raspberries
  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fruit preserves, any flavor

  • 10 (10 inch) flour tortillas
  • butter flavored cooking spray
  • 2 cups cinnamon sugar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix kiwis, Golden Delicious apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Coat one side of each flour tortilla with butter flavored cooking spray. Cut into wedges and arrange in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle wedges with desired amount of cinnamon sugar. Spray again with cooking spray.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with any remaining tortilla wedges. Allow to cool approximately 15 minutes. Serve with chilled fruit and spice mixture.

Aren't most of those derived from other cheeses though? I don't consider any variety of cheddar to be an American cheese; cheddar is intrinsically English.
