Hi guys,

Just curious...I'm flying alitalia in July and I just logged into their website and it shows that they cancelled a TON of flights on May 3 and 4. Does anyone know why they did this? I'm trying to figure out if there was a problem of if they just willy-nilly do this every so often...'cause that would royally bite if they did it on my dates!!!:help:

I wouldnt worry about a strike in Italy. They are well organized, usually short lived causing very little inconvience. The chances of having another one on the day o fyour flight is minimal and you can probably know about it before you fly.

there was a taxi strike in italy while i was there last summer. that sucked. we were stuck only going places within walking distance of our hotel for three days! strikes seem to follow me around...there was a loooong tube strike while i was living in london, a taxi strike in morocco when i was there last month, and now the consulate is even closed!

i guess people don't wanna do their job when i'm around! ;) jk

ok did some digging and apparently in Italy they schedule their strikes...which I guess is kinda cool. lol.

I don't know any Italian but here is the most current strike schedule...looks like there will be quite a few between now and the beginning of July. i'll just keep looking at this in the next month I guess to see if they strike when I leave.

Hope this helps if anyone else is flying with them. I perused a few other message boards and a few peeps said the following:

1) alitalia never informed them of the strikes

2) once at the gate they were reticketed with another airline, so they did indeed get to travel and some even got their earlier due to shorter layovers

Don't know what this is going to mean for them though since they're already pretty much in the tank. Has anyone ever experienced an airline going under when you have tickets to fly them? Are the tickets honored by another airline or do you just suck up the loss? :help:

Most times, another airline will honor the ticket. They do this since they are buying out the bankrupt airline, and want to keep their customers. Don't count on it though.

You should be all set for your flight but next time stay away from Alitalia. I've never flown on the worst planes or dealt with that rude crew. And their air crew in Milan is just useless. I think whoever is not Italian and is on their planes gets 2nd grade treatment

To Italians I apologize but this is how I feel about Alitalia.

July is way less likely for strikes than August.

Usually Alitalia or Italian other airport related things go on strike at the very end of August. When all country is returning from the holidays ...

Well...luckily I still have my ex husband's last name which is Italian. lol Actually come to think of it when I made my reservations the woman on the other line perked up when she heard my last name and was wicked friendly. :) Anyways what's done is done and I can't get a refund so we'll see what happens. It has the best timing in terms of depart/arrival and layover for the trip to Cairo and the price was right.
