Hi everyone,

I am a little stressed as my husband just told me he saw a form in the package we just received, and it states that I need to get a police certificate from Japan because I lived there for more than 6 mths (353 days to be exact)!!

But NVC states "IF the applicant lived in a different country for more than 12 months AND was 16 years or older at that time THEN the applicant need a police certificate form the police authorities of that locality".

I am so stressed!! To obtain a certificate from the Japanese consulate here in MEL will take up to 3 mths, we are now looking at flights to Tokyo so it can be done in 3 weeks, hopefully in time for my interview!! I have emailed the Sydney Consulate, now I am just waiting for a reply. Has anyone else needed a certificate from anonther country where they have lived at least 6mths??

:crying:

11-05-06 Sent I-130 to California

06-01-07 INTERVIEW

06-04-07 Received VISA in the mail. Silly Consulate issued me CR-1 instead of IR-1, no time to change it in Australia, will try to change it once in California.

06-10-07 POE SFO

06-21-07 Receive SSN#

07-12-07 Receive Green Card in the mail STILL HAD CR1 INSTEAD OF IR1

12-10-07 Finally sent I-90 asking for a new green card with correct info.

06-17-08 INFOPASS - Was told USCIS sent new green card to old address back in Jan. Will resend it but may not be able to correct error as it was made by Consulate not USCIS.

What to do now??

hollywood,

The NVC isn't going to process your visa application, the consulate in Australia is. Confirm with the consulate what they will want from you.

Thanks Yodrak for your reply.

I emailed the Consulate today and now I am just waiting.

I am so annoyed by all of this!! I just arrived back in Australia last week and have not been home since Nov 2006, I could have organised a certificate with the Japanese Consulate then. I was even in Tokyo in Feb 2007 for 2 weeks, more than enough time to organise a police certificate there and then!! Either the Consulate or the NVC gave us the wrong information and is causing stress that could have easily been avoided. Wish they could communicate with each other more effectively!!

Hopefully, I will have my visa in the next 3 weeks!!
